Corpus students shine at ACYF and National Capital Experience Alexandra CarcioneThu, 11 Dec 2025 05:14:45 +0000/news-blog/2025/acyf-and-national-capital-experience57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:693a46451da9ea648dfc1620Vlog Students Shine at ACYF and National Capital Experience

Over the recent trip to Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney, a group of 43 Year 9 students represented Vlog with enthusiasm, faith, and a spirit of adventure!

Melbourne – Australian Catholic Youth Festival

The journey began in Melbourne, where we joined over 6,000 young Catholics at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF). Across three inspiring days, students participated in vibrant liturgies, including Mass and a pilgrimage with the World Youth Day Cross and Icon, and attended meaningful sessions that deepened their understanding of faith. At one of the plenaries students heard Fr Rob Galea, whose message resonated deeply with our young people filling them with hope and helping them to recognise that in the messiness of life, God is there with them.

A highlight from the festival was hearing from Pope Leo XIV who addressed the audience gathered there. He reminded young people that

“each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary. Our lives, therefore, find their ultimate purpose in becoming who God made us to be, in other words, by living out his will in our lives”.

Students also embraced the cultural richness of Melbourne, visiting the MCG, enjoying the Southbank light show, shopping, and completing an Amazing Race through the CBD, culminating at the State Library of Victoria. They explored museums, hopped on and off trams, and immersed themselves in the city’s dynamic atmosphere.

Canberra – Learning in the Nation’s Capital

Our time in Canberra was an incredible opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Australia’s democratic foundations and rich history. The city itself, designed to reflect the ideals of democracy, became a living classroom for our group.

Australian War Memorial

A deeply moving experience was participating in the Last Post Ceremony, where Shane and Sophia laid a wreath on behalf of our College community. Students learned about the sacrifices made by Australians in times of conflict and reflected on themes of service, peace, and remembrance.

Old and New Parliament House

At the Electoral Education Centre and the Museum of Australian Democracy, both at Old Parliament House, students explored the evolution of Australia’s democratic system and the historical debates that shaped our nation. At New Parliament House, they walked through the chambers where laws are made today, gaining insight into the roles of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and how citizens’ voices are represented in government.

Royal Australian Mint

Here, students discovered how currency is produced and its role in the economy. They learned about the history of Australian coins and the technology behind minting, linking economics to everyday life.

High Court of Australia

Students visited the highest court in the land, learning about its role in interpreting the Constitution and ensuring justice. They explored how the judiciary safeguards rights and maintains the balance of power in our democracy. Students had the opportunity to reflect more deeply on one Australia’s most influential cases, the Eddie Mabo case, and reflect on how we as a community can commit to Reconciliation.

Australian Institute of Sport (AIS)

At AIS, students saw firsthand how elite athletes train and learned about the science behind sports performance, teamwork, and resilience, values that resonate beyond the sporting arena. The group learned about why the AIS was first created and the direct impact it has had on our performance at various Olympic Games.

Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre

This interactive experience sparked curiosity and creativity as students engaged with hands-on exhibits exploring physics, robotics, and innovation. It was a reminder of the importance of science and technology in shaping the future.

Throughout these visits, students connected classroom learning to real-world contexts, developing a deeper appreciation for Australia’s democratic principles, cultural heritage, and scientific achievements.

Sydney – A Perfect Finale

Our final stop was Sydney, where students explored Circular Quay, admired the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, enjoyed a ferry ride to Taronga Zoo, and spent the afternoon discovering the beauty of the harbou city before flying home.

Faith and Formation

Reflecting on the experience, we are reminded of Pope Francis’ words shared by Pope Leo during ACYF:

“Young people, you are the now of God. Do not be afraid to dream big and live your faith boldly.”

This trip was a testament to that call, our students lived their faith with joy and courage.

Thank You

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff who generously gave their time, the parents for their support, and most importantly, our students, whose energy and openness made this journey unforgettable. These students are to be commended on their behaviour and attitude toward the whole experience. They are examples of our values being lived out for the world to see and we are incredibly proud of them.

Finally, we acknowledge the support of the Australian Government:

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $510 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

E-News 2 December Corpus CommunicationsTue, 02 Dec 2025 04:38:16 +0000/news-blog/2025/e-news-2-december57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:6923b018c1e41e7c5d5b1fea

Term 4

Welcome to Week 8

  • At Corpus Christi we believe that every individual in our community has the ability to make a meaningful contribution and help shape the unique story of our College. By fostering a sense of personal agency, we encourage all to speak up, share ideas, and engage in ways that are constructive and life-giving.

The Gospels present Jesus as the ultimate model of leadership - one who is prayerful, humble, merciful, relational, compassionate and courageous. Jesus led by serving. He placed others first, recognised their gifts, and nurtured their growth with attentiveness and care. Inspired by Jesus’ example, we strive as a community to lead through service, empowering and supporting those around us.

At Corpus we aim to form leaders who place the needs of others ahead of their own. Our students, whether holding formal roles or leading by example, strive to develop their own gifts while empowering others. In doing so, they seek to create positive change that is ethical, inclusive, and socially just, both within our College and in the broader community.

We look to Pope Francis for inspiration in building this leadership culture. His leadership was grounded in humility, service and authenticity. Author Chris Downey said that Pope Francis’ leadership was “other-centred” and that he led with self-awareness, understanding his own strengths and limitations, and consistently placed the needs of others before his own. He fostered inclusion and empowered others.

We had the opportunity to explore Pope Francis’ leadership, along with other key leaders, during our recent Prefect Camp in defining what it means to be a servant leader like Jesus. Our Prefects were all present yesterday as we announced our incoming leaders in Years 8 to 11 for next year. Congratulations to our new Senior School leadership group, we wish them all of the best for 2026. We look forward to announcing the Junior School leadership positions next week.

We acknowledge and celebrate every student who stepped forward to apply for a leadership role. While not all were appointed to formal positions, we firmly believe that leadership is not defined by a title. Each of these students has demonstrated courage, initiative, and a willingness to serve - qualities that make them leaders in their own right. Their contributions will continue to shape the life of our College, and we encourage them to keep using their gifts to inspire and support others.

  • We celebrate the outstanding leadership and service of Head of Sport, Mr James Howard, who was recently announced as the recipient of the St Sebastian Fellowship Award at the Annual Associated and Catholic College’s (ACC) Awards breakfast.

This prestigious award honours individuals whose long-standing and exceptional service to the ACC reflects the true spirit of St Sebastian; strength, endurance, perseverance, courage, and justice.

For more than two decades, Mr Howard has shaped sport, community, and culture with dedication and a genuine sense of service. He has contributed strongly to the ACC and to our Corpus community to support the growth of sporting opportunities for students. Mr Howard has championed participation and pride in oneself and the College, ensuring that sport is not just about winning, but about belonging, teamwork and the celebration of gifts and talents,

Congratulations to Mr Howard on this outstanding and very well-deserved achievement.

  • We were delighted to welcome many students, families, staff and friends to our annual Vlog Carols on the Junior School oval on Tuesday last week. The event was a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas and celebrate another fulfilling school year, bringing together our community in a spirit of joy, connection, and belonging.

The evening was filled with festive music thanks to our talented singers and musicians who made the event such a memorable one. Adding to the excitement, we were delighted to welcome a very special guest, Santa himself, who brought smiles and laughter to all of those present.

We are very grateful to our students for their enthusiasm in preparing for the event, along with our staff for their dedicated efforts. Of course, we thank our families for their excellent support of the evening.

  • We were delighted to welcome the Graduating Class of 2031 to the College for their Orientation Day on Tuesday last week. These students will be joining us next year as Year 7 students in 2026 and we know that they will continue to positively contribute to our Corpus legacy.

We congratulate the students for the ways that they participated fully in the planned events and activities across the day. We challenged students right at the start of the day to live out our Values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion throughout the day to ensure that everyone felt a genuine sense of belonging and connection. We acknowledge the students for stepping out of their comfort zone to discover new friendships and to experience many of the different growth opportunities the school has to offer.  We thank our senior student leaders for their support of the day and also our staff who, as always, give of their time and talents so generously.

On Wednesday evening last week, we then welcomed parents and caregivers of our incoming Year 7 students to hear from renowned author and presenter, Claire Eaton, who provided advice and information on the transition journey of students from primary to high school.

  • We farewelled a very excited group of students last Saturday, departing Perth for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival and Canberra Tour. Staff and students have been busy preparing over the past months for this very special event. We wish them all well and hope that they enjoy this wonderful experience. Thank you to our dedicated staff for their support of this excellent initiative.

  • Thank you to the members of the community who recently attended the College’s Annual Community Meeting. The meeting provided us with the opportunity to reflect on another very successful year at the College and to acknowledge the wonderful contribution from so many different groups who ensure the continued growth of our special community.  We thank our Catholic School Advisory Council Chair, Mrs Stephenie Vahala, who chaired the evening.

  • With the Season of Advent upon us, we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus at Christmas. During the special time in the life of the Church, we are invited to deepen our spiritual lives through prayer, reflection, and acts of charity.

In preparation for the arrival of Christ, Pope Leo XIV encourages us to live faithfully, promote reconciliation, and work toward unity in our communities and beyond. His message is a call to ‘active hope’ – not one of passive waiting, but an active time of preparation.

As the term rapidly draws to a close during the Season of Advent, we wish all of our families every blessing for a joy-filled Christmas. We acknowledge the wonderful engagement of parents and caregivers, the courage of our students to learn and grow, the support of the St Thomas More Parish and the outstanding dedication of our amazing staff working in partnership to shape our wonderful Vlog community.

Best wishes and every blessing

  • Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Australian Government has introduced new legislation that will raise the minimum age for social media use to 16 years old, beginning 10 December 2025. We are sharing this information to help you understand what is changing, how it may affect your child, and how you can support them through this transition.

    What Is Changing?

    • Children under 16 will no longer be able to access social media.

    • Parents and guardians cannot give permission for under-16s to have social media accounts.

    • All major social media platforms - including Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, X, Facebook, YouTube (logged-in use), Threads, Reddit, and Kick - are included in the ban.

    • Existing accounts for under-16s will be locked once the ban begins.

How Will Platforms Enforce the Ban?

Social media companies will be responsible for verifying users’ ages. They may use:

    • ID checks

    • Facial recognition

    • Other age-verification technologies

Strict privacy rules apply: age-verification data cannot be used for any other purpose.

What Apps Can Children Under 16 Still Use?

The ban does not apply to:

    • Messaging apps (Messenger, Messenger Kids, Discord, Signal, Telegram)

    • Online gaming platforms (Roblox, Minecraft, Steam, Fortnite)

    • Health and education apps

    • Viewing YouTube without logging in (guest mode)

There are no penalties or fines for children, parents, or schools if children access banned platforms.

Preparing Your Child for the Change

This shift may feel significant for young people who rely on social media for connection, entertainment, and communication. The most supportive things parents can do include:

    1. Acknowledge Their Feelings

The ban may feel unfair or upsetting. Avoid dismissive phrases such as “It’s for your own good.” Keep conversations open and understanding.

    2. Model Healthy Behaviour

Many adults also find themselves glued to their phones. Demonstrating balanced tech use helps children adjust more easily.

    3. Help Them Build Offline Connections

Young people won’t automatically replace social media time with healthier activities. Encourage:

    • Face-to-face social time

    • Sports, hobbies, and creative outlets

    • Family activities

    • Regular tech-free times

    4. Practical Steps Before 10 December

    Help your child to:

    • Save Snapchat memories to their camera roll

    • Collect their friends’ phone numbers

    • Download posts or photos they want to keep

    • Cancel any subscriptions linked to social media

    • Stay alert for scams offering “workarounds” or “reactivation”

    Ideas for Offline Activities

To support the transition away from social media, here are some enjoyable screen-free options:

    • Cooking, baking, gardening

    • Drawing, painting, crafting

    • Sports, walking, the gym, swimming

    • Reading, audiobooks, podcasts

    • Going to the markets, beach, skate park, Kings Park

    • Board games, card games, escape rooms, mini golf

    • Photography, journaling, making a vision board

    • Spending time with friends and family

(You may like to sit with your child and make your own list of personalised ideas.)

    Conversation Starters About Technology

Use simple, curious questions to help your child reflect on their phone use:

    • What will you miss most about social media?

    • What won’t you miss?

    • How does social media affect your mood?

    • How do you recharge without your phone?

    • What hobbies or friendships do you want to grow offline?

    • How will you stay connected with friends?

  • As we prepare for an exciting year of learning in 2026, we are pleased to share that our school will be introducing the Explicit Mathematics Program in Pre-Primary to Year 2. This comprehensive, research-informed program provides a high-quality and rigorous approach to early mathematics, building strong foundations in number, measurement, statistics and probability, and problem-solving. Concepts are taught sequentially and revisited regularly to strengthen understanding, and hands-on materials such as Bonds Blocks will continue to support students’ learning. This program will be embedded alongside our play-based learning approach, helping to develop confidence and a deep understanding that will prepare students for Powerful Problem Solving opportunities and the Oxford Owls resource in later years.

A gentle reminder that booklist purchases for 2026 are now open, with orders due by 7 December to ensure materials arrive in time for the new school year. If you choose not to purchase the general stationery items, please ensure that the textbook levies are still paid so your child can receive their required texts at the beginning of the year. These resources play an important role in supporting our teaching and learning programs. Booklists can be accessed via the following link: . Thank you for your ongoing support as we prepare for another positive and successful year of learning.

Student Success Spotlight: Sofia Carcione Shines on Stage!

On Saturday night, Year 3 student Sofia Carcione took to the stage for her much-anticipated dance concert. After dedicating herself to both Acro and Ballet throughout the year, Sofia’s hard work and passion were recognised in a very special way.

Sofia proudly received the Glitterati Outstanding Effort Award, one of only three trophies awarded across the entire dance school on the evening. Her teacher shared these wonderful words: “This student is always kind and helpful to others... she always comes to class with a positive, enthusiastic attitude ready to learn.”

Congratulations, Sofia! Your effort and enthusiasm is impressive!

Term 4

Welcome to Week 6

Student Engagement

This term has been an exceptionally busy time for the College as we move swiftly toward the close of another school year. Our students have shown outstanding commitment to a wide range of activities and events, embracing every opportunity to succeed while learning and growing along the way.

Our Senior School students have been involved in their exams of late, using these assessments to illustrate their learning and understanding. They have approached their exams with maturity, rigour and determination, working with staff to fine tune their learning. Students across the other year levels have also been involved in a multitude of learning experiences, with courses now moving toward their conclusion. As outlined in my opening newsletter article this term, we want our students to accelerate toward the end of the year, fully investing in their learning along the way to support their ongoing growth.

Learning of course happens anywhere anytime, so it was wonderful to showcase and celebrate outstanding student achievement across our K-12 school in the Performing Arts last week. On Tuesday we welcomed many hundreds of parents, caregivers and families into the College gym to see our K-6 students perform at the ‘Explore K-6 Performing Arts Showcase’. The event was a joy filled celebration with our students showcasing their skills and leanings from their Performing Arts program. Well done to our students on their excellent performances and thank you to our dedicated staff for their support of the students.

From a Senior School perspective, we were delighted to present our Music Recital Evening to families last week. The evening, held in the Caroline Payne Theatre, provided our Music students with the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, sharing their gifts and talents. Congratulations to our students on their outstanding performances. We acknowledge their skill, curiosity and creativity and thank them for a joyous and inspirational evening. We acknowledge to Head of Music, Mr Charles Pinkham, and our Music Tutors for their terrific support of the students.

Meanwhile, out on the sporting field, we celebrated the efforts of our Junior School athletes who recently won the CAPSS Athletics Carnival. This victory means that the College has secured wins in every CAPSS Carnival this year. This is an extraordinary effort and speaks to the determination and commitment of our students and the pride with which they represent our College. It is an achievement that celebrates the depth, culture, and spirit of sport at Corpus Christi. Special thanks to Mr David Trickett and the Junior School staff for their considerable efforts.

Our Senior student leaders have also been busy of late with our 2026 Prefect Team heading off to Dwellingup for their Prefect Camp. This event allowed out students to gather as a team to develop their whole school strategy for next year. We look forward to them sharing their initiatives with the school community into the new year.

Parent and Caregiver Engagement

We have also greatly appreciated the excellent engagement of our parents and caregivers in the life of the school this year, including most recently with our Friends of Corpus strategic input workshop last week. Parents were provided with the opportunity to feed into the conversation of ‘what went well this year?’, and ‘where to for next year?’. This process forms a part of our Catholic School Improvement Strategy giving parents an important voice in the direction of the school.

I often highlight the extensive body of research showing that parent engagement is among the most significant factors influencing a child’s educational success. According to the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), decades of research confirms that when parents actively participate in their child’s learning, both at home and through school partnerships, students demonstrate higher academic performance, stronger motivation, and improved social and emotional development.

Engagement, of course, goes beyond attending school events; it includes creating a supportive and enriching home environment, encouraging high aspirations, and maintaining open communication with teachers. These actions foster motivation, confidence, and resilience in learners, which are critical for long-term success.

To this end, over the course of the year, we have focused on parent engagement opportunities for parents curated through our four Pillars to support the holistic development of our students. Guest speakers and workshops have supported the development of a common language and shared ideas on how to support our students. We are very grateful to our parents and caregivers for their support of these events and for their invaluable input.

We look forward to continuing to develop authentic parent engagement programs and initiatives into next year in support of the holistic growth and development of our students.

Capital Development

We were thrilled to officially take possession of the newly refurbished James Nestor building last week. This milestone marks an exciting step forward in our ongoing commitment to providing modern, innovative learning spaces for our students. The refurbishment has transformed the building into a vibrant and functional environment that will support a wide range of educational activities and enhance the overall experience for our community.

With this project now complete, we are preparing to commence works at our Junior School. These upgrades will play a significant role in improving facilities across our amalgamated campus, ensuring that every student benefits from contemporary spaces designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and growth. This investment reflects our vision for a future-focused learning environment that meets the needs of today and tomorrow.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Principal

James Nestor Building Refurbishment Complete

We are excited to share that the refurbishment of the James Nestor building for our Year 5 and 6 students is now complete. This vibrant, refreshed learning space features four contemporary classrooms designed to inspire creativity and collaboration. At the heart of the area is a large breakout space, connecting all classrooms and providing flexibility for group activities and innovative learning experiences. A dedicated bag-storage zone has been thoughtfully integrated to support students’ daily routines.

This location will serve as a temporary home for our Year 5 and 6 students while we complete major refurbishment works in the Junior School classroom atriums during 2026 and 2027.

On Friday afternoon, we welcomed our Junior School staff to preview the space, and today, the whole College staff had the opportunity to learn more about the refurbishment. This is an important step in shaping what the future of learning spaces will look like across our K–12 College. These enhancements align with the College’s broader vision of holistic, contemporary learning environments to ensure that “learning happens anywhere, anytime” on our campus.

Kaden’s Championship Victory

After two weeks of intense trials, Kaden earned his spot on the Willetton Tigers Division 1 team. Just two weeks later, his team competed in the WABL Division 1 State Championship Tournament, playing seven games across the weekend, including the semi-finals and finals on Sunday.

The journey was full of highs and lows, but the boys never gave up. In the semi-final, the score was tied with just two minutes remaining when Kaden sank a clutch three-pointer to put his team ahead. That decisive shot secured their place in the grand final.

Fueled by confidence, the Tigers dominated the final and claimed gold in the State Championship—an incredible achievement! This victory means the team has automatically qualified for the WABL Nationals in September 2026, exactly the outcome they were hoping for.

Congratulations, Kaden, on your outstanding performance and leadership under pressure!

Term 4

Welcome to Week 4

Graduating Class of 2025

It was a very special day for the College on Wednesday of Week 2 where we gathered to celebrate the journey of our Graduating Class of 2025.

Our Year 12s have been outstanding role models for our students across the K-12 College. They have lived out our Values by committing fully to all aspects of school life, they have led and learned with courage and have been compassionately present for others through their kindness, support, and service.

Our Year 12 students leave a legacy of unity, pride and joy. They have epitomised what it means to be a Corpus student and contributed to our culture in a very positive way. They have walked together with hope, they have joyfully lifted others up and led our College community with enthusiasm, energy, vision and a genuine sense of service.

It was with immense pride that we recognised their contribution at the Graduation Assembly during the day, alongside their families and friends. We then gathered at St Mary’s Cathedral in the evening to celebrate Mass together and formally present their Graduation Certificates.

The journey of course continues for our graduands – as one chapter closes, another begins. In exploring a world full of opportunity, we reminded our departing students that they are imbued with the Corpus spirit and surrounded by loving families and friends to walk alongside them on the next part of their pilgrimage of growth, discovery and transformation.

We acknowledge the exceptional leadership of our Graduating Class of 2025 in igniting the spirit within our community. Their legacy will be long lasting within our College and act as an inspiration for all other students.

 The Gift of Reconciliation

On Saturday 25 October, our Year 3 students took a significant step in their faith journey by celebrating their First Reconciliation. This sacred occasion marked a moment of grace and reflection, as each child experienced the healing power of God's forgiveness. The students approached the Sacrament with reverence and maturity, supported by their families, teachers, and parish community. Their preparation this year has been both spiritual and personal, laying a strong foundation for their First Holy Communion next year.

The journey to Reconciliation has involved learning about the importance of saying sorry, understanding the impact of our actions, and recognising the unconditional love of God. Through prayer, classroom discussions, and reflection, the students have come to appreciate that forgiveness is not only a gift we receive but also one we are called to offer others. Their readiness to participate in this Sacrament is a testament to the nurturing environment provided by our staff and parish, where faith and compassion are central to our shared values.

A Celebration of Sport

The College was thrilled to hold its annual Burgundy, White and Blue Celebration of Sport Awards Evening on Thursday last week in celebration of the commitment effort and achievement of our students this year.

The College has a rich and proud culture of sport. We proudly champion sporting opportunities because they deliver a wealth of benefits that extend far beyond the playing field. Participation improves overall fitness, enhances flexibility, and develops coordination, balance, and movement skills. It also plays a preventative role in reducing long-term health risks, promotes relaxation, supports healthy sleep patterns, and encourages lifelong habits of physical activity.

Just as significant are the wellbeing benefits sport provides. It builds resilience, perseverance, and self-regulation, while fostering teamwork and a sense of belonging. Through organised sporting experiences, students strengthen social and emotional skills, grow confidence and self-esteem, and develop interpersonal abilities. Sport also cultivates a growth mindset and self-motivation, as students set personal and team goals that drive continuous improvement.

Beyond physical and emotional wellbeing, sport adds value to learning by challenging critical thinking, decision-making, and moral reasoning. It develops leadership, communication, and collaboration skills – attributes that are transferable across many areas of life and future careers. At the College, we believe sport is not just about competition; it is about shaping well-rounded individuals who thrive physically, mentally, and socially.

The benefits of involvement in sport are many. We therefore encourage all of our students to fully invest themselves in the sporting life of the College.

Congratulations to all of the students recognised during the Burgundy, White and Blue Celebration evening for their contribution to sport this year. We celebrate their achievements and efforts in giving of their best to represent the College and themselves in the sporting arena.

We also acknowledge our very dedicated staff for their support of our students in providing them with this important growth pathway. Led by Head of Sport, Mr James Howard, and Head of Health & Physical Education, Mr Daniel Curtis, this team of staff has generously given of their time and expertise to create a broad array of outstanding sporting opportunities for students.

College Open Day

We were thrilled to welcome prospective families to our College Open Day held across the K-12 campus last Saturday morning. We were excited to have the opportunity to share our story and to celebrate the extraordinary array of holistic learning pathways available at the College.

Attendees gathered initially to hear of our Vision, Mission and Values and then broke into groups to attend tours led by our students and to meet with College staff. The day was filled with festivities, activities and events, showcasing our wonderful school community.

We thank everyone involved in the very successful day, in particular our students who gave up their time so generously on a Saturday to lead the tours. These outstanding students are excellent ambassadors for our College and promote what it means to live out our Vison of being Outstanding for Others.

We have a very rich and illustrious heritage at our school, built through the contribution of many wonderful staff, students and parents across the decades. We look forward to welcoming new families into our community to continue to grow our story into the future.

Best wishes and every blessing

Student Success Story: Ava Bronson-Wang – Interschool Spelling Bee Achievement

Last week, our Year 4 to 6 Interschool Spelling Bee team proudly represented Vlog at Orana Catholic Primary School, bringing enthusiasm, confidence, and a strong commitment to excellence. Each student gave their very best, demonstrating thorough preparation and poise throughout the competition.

A special congratulations to Ava Bronson-Wang, who achieved an outstanding second place in the Year 4 division. Her performance was a testament to her dedication and love of learning.

We commend all our participants for their hard work and for showcasing the College’s values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion. Well done!

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Camp – Cape to Cape Journey

Year 10 student Chelsea McKay successfully completed her Duke of Edinburgh Silver Qualifying Camp over the October holidays.

Chelsea trekked an impressive 81 kilometres along the Cape to Cape Track with the company Simply Trekking and 8 other students from other schools.  The group started at Cowaramup Beach in Gracetown and finishing at the iconic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.

This five-day journey was no easy feat. It included two challenging 7 km beach walks, steep escarpment climbs, and stunning stretches through majestic Karri forest.

In preparation, Chelsea demonstrated excellent organisation and resilience — planning her meals, learning to dehydrate food to reduce pack weight, and carrying all her own gear, including her tent, sleeping bag, and clothing.

Well done, Chelsea! What an outstanding achievement and a true demonstration of independence, determination, and adventure.

Student Success Spotlight: Aiden and Lachie Geaney

We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of Aiden and Lachie Geaney at the State BMX Championships and the Mountain Biking Enduro National Championship, held during the recent holidays.

Both students demonstrated outstanding commitment and resilience throughout the year, competing in seven race days across Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Collie, and Perth. Their efforts paid off with Lachie finishing 3rd and Aiden 6th in the State Series.

At the State Championships, Aiden secured 8th place in the 20-inch category and an amazing 3rd place in the Cruiser class. Lachie placed 9th in the 20-inch category and 10th in the Cruiser class.

The boys also took on a new challenge at the National Mountain Biking Enduro Championship in Collie, marking their first national-level competition in mountain biking. Aiden completed five runs over four and a half hours, tackling steep climbs and a 15km return ride for a single run! Lachie powered through four challenging runs, embracing the thrill of muddy trails and pouring rain.

Looking ahead, Aiden and Lachie have an exciting year of BMX racing, with plans to compete at the Oceania Championships in Brisbane (February) and the Nationals in Shepparton (April)—a qualifying event for the World Championships in Brisbane (July).

Congratulations, Aiden and Lachie! Your determination and passion for sport are truly inspiring.

Term 4

Welcome to Week 2

Welcome to the start of another term at Corpus Christi. It was terrific to see our students returning last week filled with energy and enthusiasm to connect with their peers and continue their learning at our College.

Term 4 is a very special term as it is a time when many plans come to fruition and programs culminate, allowing students to celebrate what they have learned and to start looking toward the next phase of their learning journey.

Whilst Term 4 represents the final term in the school year, it also provides an important opportunity for students to harness their learnings from across the year and build on their growing body of understanding to explore new learnings and pathways. Learning is continuous and cumulative. We are better positioned to solve future problems and challenges when we continue to reflect on what we have learned through adopting a regular improvement and goal setting routine.

The start of a term provides the ideal time to explore effort and application, along with strategy and technique, to explore areas of potential improvement. With fresh eyes and renewed energies, we can look ahead with commitment to make necessary adjustments and adopt new and more impactful actions. We want our students to continue to accelerate through their learning as they progress at the College, eventually departing as holistically developed individuals with a rich understanding of their own strengths and how to use these in service of others.

As we progress through Term 4, we therefore remind our students of the commitment required to achieve at their optimum level. There are no short cuts to success. Challenging oneself to give of one’s best always, and to make learning the focus, promotes future growth and success. Term 4 therefore is a time where momentum builds. Instead of sitting back waiting for the year to end, we encourage our students to value each moment at school for the growth potential it provides. As students then pause during the Christmas break, they can look back with pride at what they have achieved, knowing that they have taken full advantage of the opportunities on offer.

In students making the commitment to always wear their uniform with pride, attending class on time with all required materials, completing set tasks on time and seeking support from teachers when needed, students best set themselves up for success. Ensuring these things are done consistently well provides a sense of routine for students and removes leaning distractions. It creates a mindset that allows them to be open to new discoveries and to better engage in learning. It promotes perseverance, resilience and self-discipline – traits which will help prepare them for their preferred future pathway.

Term 4 of course also means our students at each year level look to the next step in their educational journey. For most this implies progressing to the next school year level. For our Year 12 students, however, it means graduating from the College. This significant event happens on Wednesday this week with an assembly at school during the day, followed by our Mass and Graduation Ceremony in the evening at St Mary’s Cathedral in Perth.

We look forward to celebrating the impact that the Year 12 students have had on the College – they have been terrific role models for students across the other year levels. Our Year 12 students have demonstrated what it means to live out our Values in a genuine way. They have illustrated the positive personal and community outcomes of committing fully to the College and stepping wholeheartedly into the life of the school.

We celebrate the contribution of our Graduating Class of 2025 to our Corpus story and wish them all of the very best for their exciting future adventures.

As a College with a focus on continued improvement, Term 4 provides us with the important opportunity to collectively reflect on our progression as a school this year, with a view of creating a plan for 2026. As a staff we will be completing a review process over the next few weeks. We will also be seeking input from different student groups, including our 2026 Prefect team during their camp scheduled for later in the term.

Of course, as partners in the educational journey of their children, we are looking forward to engaging parents and caregivers in a strategic process to support our ongoing growth as a school. As per our calendar, we have our Friends of Corpus Stewardship Workshop scheduled for Wednesday 12 November in the Sadler Centre, during which parents and caregivers can provide input into the development of our 4 Core Pillars of Catholic Identity and Mission, Community, Learning and Stewardship. You can register your attendance for the evening here. We look forward to your company then.

In a quick update regarding our current building program, we are pleased to report that the timing of the delivery of the James Nestor refurbishment remains on schedule, with completion of this work expected later this term. The space looks excellent and will provide a wonderful learning area for Year 5 and 6 students whilst we complete the Junior School building refurbishments in the ensuing years. We will continue to update our community as the handover date gets closer.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Term 3

Welcome to Week 10

Welcome to the end of another very rewarding and fulfilling term at the College. The last ten weeks have seen students continuing to step into their learning and strive toward our Vision of being Outstanding for Others.

This simple yet deeply meaningful Vison encourages our students to aim for excellence and to use their talents in service of others – that is, to utilise their gifts to the full:

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.’ - Matthew 5:15-16

In Courageously Committing with Compassion to our College community, students grow holistically, benefit self and others and positively contribute to the special culture at the College. In being ‘ready to learn’ our students actively seek out opportunities of interest, set ambitious goals and are open to all experiences and challenges. It was no surprise therefore to see our bustling K-12 College full of life and energy over the course of the term.

It has been a big term for sport at Corpus Christi with the running of our Junior School and Senior School House Athletics Carnivals. Students also participated in multiple Associated Catholic College and Catholic Primary Schools Sports carnivals and afterschool fixtures. We congratulate our Junior School students who remained undefeated across both Modcrosse and League Tag in the CAPSS ML Carnival in August, an outstanding achievement, and our senior students who recently competed in the ACC A - Division Athletics Carnival at the WA Athletics Stadium finishing in 6th position in a highly competitive event.

The inaugural Year 9 Retreats, held over two weeks in four groups, provided students with a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect, and deepen their understanding of themselves and their relationship with God. Our Year 6 students meanwhile prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on their retreat on 29 August. This sacred time of preparation culminated in the celebration of Confirmation on 6 September – a profound moment in their journey of faith. Our Year 11s also enjoyed their Retreat experience, meeting together as a cohort to celebrate Mass together at St Mary’s Cathedral.

Book Week 2025, held across both campuses, was another very special event this term with students celebrating their favourite characters in recognising the importance of reading. A record number of students meanwhile participated in this year’s Tournament of the Minds competition. Corpus Christi entered 12 teams, eight of whom received a merit certificate, with the Year 6 team making it through to the state finals - an outstanding achievement that reflects the dedication, collaboration, and innovation of our students, supported by the guidance of our staff.

We have reported at length the amazing array of Arts events and activities held over the course of the term, with our rich involvement in the Catholic Arts Performing Arts Festival, Angelico Arts Exhibition and our own Nexus Arts Festival. We also were thrilled to announce our cast for next year’s whole school musical Shrek.  Congratulations to all those students who participated with such energy and enthusiasm.

We paused to celebrate a number of our House Patrons over the course of the term with students across the K-12 College gathering together to participate in planned activities and events. A large group of senior students, meanwhile, are to be acknowledged for their courage in stepping outside of their comfort zone on a wet and windy night on 1 August to raise awareness and money for the homeless as part of the St Vinnies Winter Sleep Out.

This is but a small snapshot of events happening at our College and compliments the rich array of learning and pastoral growth opportunities occurring each and every day within our classrooms. We look forward to recognising the significant efforts and achievements of our students at the upcoming whole school assembly when we present our Colours and Service Awards. These student recipients epitomise what it means to be Outstanding for Others and to take full advantage of the multiple learning opportunities available at the College. They are agents of their own learning with the proven capacity to set goals, and reflect and act responsibly to effect real, positive change.

During this week’s assembly, we will also be recognising our special Year 12 leaders who have led our College with pride and commitment. They have left an indelible mark on the life and culture of our community and we thank them for their outstanding contribution. Through their selfless actions and commitment, our College Prefects have epitomised true servant leadership.

We also acknowledge their impact and the legacy of our departing Year 12 cohort in shaping our unique Corpus story. These students are all very much in our thoughts and prayers as they navigate the final few weeks toward their graduation and we look forward to soon celebrating this special occasion with them and their families.

In continuing the unbroken line of student leadership at the College we are looking forward to commissioning our newly appointed leaders for 2026 at our upcoming assembly. We congratulate our incoming Prefects, led by Head Girl: Amelie Braine and Head Boy: Leo Webb and acknowledge their dedication in stepping forward to lead.

As the term rapidly draws to a close, I would like to thank parents, caregivers and families for their engagement in the College community. We value this important partnership as we work together to create a flourishing learning environment for our students. A special thanks to our Friends of Corpus (FOC) Executive team and to all parents and caregivers who joined us at FOC events during the term.

Thanks also to our School Advisory Council for their continued support this term. Their advice and reflections around our future financial planning and capital development at our Term 3 meeting was much appreciated as always.

I would also like to acknowledge our very dedicated K-12 College staff. We thank them for their considerable efforts in supporting student learning and for providing such a broad array of engaging and personalised learning pathways for students.

As always at the end of the term, I hope that families take the opportunity to enjoy some quality time together over the holiday break. We look forward to students returning to the College safe, well and energised to commence their final term of the year.

Best wishes and every blessing

Junior School Capital Development

Refurbishment works at the James Nestor Auditorium are progressing well, with completion still on track for November 2025. The space is being transformed into a short-term contemporary learning hub for our Year 5 and 6 students, supporting the broader capital development taking place in the Junior School.

Recent works have included the installation of new windows, creation of new classroom spaces, new ceilings, fresh coats of paint, and the fitting of custom joinery. Furniture selection for breakout spaces is in progress as is the selection of upgraded technology in the classrooms. These works will ensure the space is functional, welcoming, and fit for purpose during the transition period.

We’re grateful to those who attended the Junior School Capital Development Feedback Evening in August, and to everyone who has submitted questions. You can view the FAQs or submit your own question here, and we look forward to sharing further updates as the project continues.

WA Volleyball Junior Volleyball League

In Term Three, Vlog proudly entered a Year 12 Boys team into the WA Volleyball Junior Volleyball League. Matches were held over three months on Friday evenings at various recreation centres across the Perth metropolitan area. The team had a strong season, finishing third in the regular rounds and progressing to the semi-finals. In a nail-biting match against Chequers, the boys secured victory by a single point in the deciding set. The grand final was another competitive encounter, but after narrowly dropping the first set, the team faced a tough challenge against a well-drilled Apex side, ultimately finishing runners-up with a 2–0 result. Congratulations to all players on an outstanding season and a well-earned silver medal.

WA Volleyball State Schools Cup

From 22 to 29 August, Vlog competed in the prestigious WA Volleyball State Schools Cup, one of the largest school volleyball tournaments in Western Australia. This year, the College entered teams in the Year 12 Boys A, Year 10 Boys A, Year 10 Girls B, and Year 7 Boys B divisions.

The Year 12 Boys team performed strongly, losing only one match before the finals. Despite their efforts, they were narrowly defeated in the semi-final and finished seventh in their division. The Year 10 Boys faced a highly competitive pool, showcasing moments of brilliance throughout the tournament, but were unable to advance to the finals. The Year 10 Girls secured a win and demonstrated steady improvement across the day, gaining valuable experience for future competitions.

The Year 7 Boys team excelled in their pool, winning all preliminary matches and advancing to the semi-final. After splitting the first two sets in a tightly contested final, they were edged out by just two points as time expired.

Well done to all athletes for their dedication, teamwork, and spirited performances throughout the tournament.

Term 3

Welcome to Week 8

The Arts

As a College that promotes individualised learning pathways for students, we have a long history of providing rich growth opportunities for students in the Arts. This term we have had a strong focus on both the Visual and Performing Arts, with students involved in a broad array of events and activities, including the Catholic Arts Performing Arts Festival, Angelico Arts Exhibition, our own Arts Exhibition, and multiple Dance, Drama and Music performances.  These rich opportunities complement the varied daily curriculum offerings across our K-12 College.

The Arts is such an important part of the culture of our school. It provides students with an authentic audience offering immediate feedback and thereby an excellent learning opportunity. The Australian Council for Educational Research in a report entitled “The Arts and Australian Education: Realising potential” highlight the importance of the role of the Arts:

“While it must be remembered that the most important role that the Arts play in enhancing learning is in enabling enjoyment and fostering imagination and creative activities through participating in arts programs and processes, it is also true that by engaging in the Arts we become more cognisant of the broad spectrum of human experience. Learning horizons and life trajectories are enhanced. The role that the Arts collectively can play in transforming students’ learning more broadly, should also be realised and celebrated.”

Given the importance and positive impact of the Arts on the lives of students, we strive to ensure a comprehensive offering of visual and performing art opportunities are integrated into the life of the College. As an example, we are currently midway through our special Nexus Arts Festival which “celebrates creativity, expression and community - display of art through vibrant exhibitions, music, dance and drama, where connection and creativity shine”.

As part of the Nexus Arts Festival, we held our outstanding Music Ensemble on Thursday last week – congratulations to students and staff on the success of this outstanding event. We look forward to the formal opening of our Arts Exhibition tomorrow evening in the James Nestor building which showcases the creativity and artistic development of our students across all year levels. Featuring an inspiring collection of works in painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art, the exhibition captures a broad range of ideas, techniques, and personal expression.

We look forward to our showcase of ATAR Dance, Drama, and Music presented by our talented Year 12 students also scheduled for tomorrow evening. Finally, to conclude the Nexus Arts Festival on Friday, we are excited to present our Inter-House Play Competition which is a student-led initiative that invites participation from students in Years 6 to 12. Each House develops and stages an original short play, encouraging collaboration, leadership, and creative expression.

The Arts is certainly alive and well at Corpus. We again thank our very dedicated team of K-12 Arts staff who provide such a rich array of meaningful learning opportunities for our students. Congratulations to all of our students for their positive participation in the plethora of Arts activities and events. A very special congratulations to the students who have been recognised for their terrific performances as part of the Catholic Arts Performing Arts festival, including:

  • 54 solo entries, with 28 earning certificates of Merit, Excellence or Outstanding.

  • 4 duet entries, including one who received an Outstanding certificate along with the Instrumental Duet Shield.

  • 18 ensemble entries across Drama, Dance, and Music, with 10 awarded certificates of Excellence and Outstanding. The Full-Length Drama Production Shield has been awarded to our College production, Radium Girls.

Straight off the back of our 2025 season, the Arts department have launched into our 2026 College Production of Shrek.  We congratulate all of our students who put themselves forward to be part of the Production, both front and backstage.  A full list of cast and crew can be viewed on our College website here.

Best wishes and every blessing

E-News

E-News Week 8

Dear Parents and Guardians

What a joyful weekend it has been in our Junior School community! On Saturday, our Year 6 students came together with their families and parish to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is such a treasured milestone, as our young people are strengthened by the Holy Spirit to live with faith and courage in their daily lives. St Francis of Assisi reminds us, “Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” We pray that our Year 6 students will continue to shine with the gifts of the Spirit and inspire others through their compassion and commitment.

That same morning, some of our Junior School teams proudly represented the College at the Tournament of Minds competition. This event challenges students to think creatively, collaborate, and problem-solve in innovative ways. We are so proud of all our teams for embracing the challenge with such enthusiasm, teamwork, and courage. A huge congratulations to our Year 6 team, who have now advanced to the State Finals. What an incredible achievement!

Of course, our community also faced a different challenge last week when we needed to cancel and reschedule our Athletics Carnival due to the extreme weather forecast. These decisions are never easy, but we are so grateful for the understanding and support of our families. We are hopeful for sunshine and smiles when we gather for the rescheduled carnival on Monday, 15 September. In the meantime, we are excited that our Kindy Carnival will go ahead this Wednesday, 10 September, and we can’t wait to cheer on our youngest athletes as they take to the track!

Upcoming events:

  • Tuesday, 9 September – Year 6 Prayer Assembly

  • Wednesday, 10 September – Kindy Athletics Carnival

  • Wednesday to Friday – Arts Showcase 2025

  • Thursday, 11 September – Year 6 Parish Mass and Year 5 Laudato Si Retreat

  • Friday, 12 September – Inter-House Play

  • Saturday and Sunday – Confirmation Parish Gifts

  • Monday, 15 September – Junior School Athletics Carnival

  • Tuesday, 16 September – 3 Blue Assembly and Confirmation Certificates

  • Thursday, 18 September – Year 4 Parish Mass

  • Friday, 19 September – Year 5 Gender Talks

Together, these moments remind us of the strength of our community and the way our College values of Courage, Compassion, and Commitment shine through in all that we do. May we continue to walk with one another in faith and hope, and may the Holy Spirit guide our children as they grow in wisdom and love.

Warm regards,

Katya Anderson

Isla Emmerson Strikes Gold on the International Stage

Isla Emmerson (Year 11 DeV) has proudly represented Australia on the international stage, competing in the inaugural Asia Pacific Championships held in Jeju, South Korea as part of the Australian U16 Lacrosse Team.

The tournament, played in a fast-paced sixes format, featured just 12 girls selected nationally — and Isla made her mark. The Australian team went undefeated in pool play, securing a place in the grand final on Sunday, 31 August, where they claimed the gold medal.

Isla delivered a standout performance in the final, scoring 3 goals and contributing 3 assists, earning her the game ball for best on field.

This international success follows an already impressive year for Isla, having represented Western Australia in both Senior Box Lacrosse and U18 Field Lacrosse. She now turns her focus to club competition, with her team, Phoenix Lacrosse Club, recently crowned minor premiers and heading into finals next weekend.

Congratulations, Isla, what an incredible year of achievement!

Term 3

Welcome to Week 6

College Value: Compassion

To conclude my reflection of our College Values across recent weeks in E-News, I would like to focus on our final Value of Compassion.

Seeing the needs of others requires us to be compassionate. By having a genuine empathy for others, we see who they are and the challenges they may be facing. We journey with them and are unwavering in our service and support. By being present to others, we show compassion and are respectful of their individuality. Understanding their suffering and circumstance allows us to respond to their needs in our words and actions.

Living our lives with compassion, therefore, draws us into positive action in support of others. We see and we act – just like Jesus did. As Saint Teresa of Avila says, we become His hands on earth, looking through His eyes with compassion on the world:

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which He looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which He walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which He blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are His body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which He looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

Jesus’ compassion for others saw Him challenge societal norms in advocating for the vulnerable. In modelling His actions, we build trust and connections, we inspire others to acts of mercy and we help create a just and caring community.

We need not look much further than our own College House Patrons who modelled Jesus’ compassion through action and who therefore continue to inspire us today.

It is easy to recognise a common element of compassionate service toward others in the mottos of our Houses. Students’ daily connection to their House, and their knowledge and understanding of their related Patron, therefore provides them with a constant reminder as to how they can live out the teachings of Jesus is a real way.

In committing to be courageously compassionate, we co-construct a better world. We help shape a society where human dignity is celebrated, and we walk life’s journey in solidarity and partnership. From a school perspective this means we create a deeply inclusive community where we can all be our best selves in service of those around us. In partnership with families, students then develop holistically with a strong moral compass to help them navigate the exciting future challenges of our dynamic world.

Our three core Values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion underpin all that we do at the College. It is through the Values that we live out our Mission of ‘Igniting the Spirit’ and collectively strive toward our Vision of being ‘Outstanding for Others’.

E-News

Dear Parents and Guardians.

This past fortnight has been filled with joy, achievement, and celebration across our Junior School.

Our Book Week Parade and celebrations on Wednesday were a highlight of the term. Students and staff filled the campus with colour, character, and creativity, embodying the theme Book an Adventure! Beyond the costumes, Book Week invites us to reflect on the transformative power of stories. Books open doors to new worlds, spark imagination, and nurture empathy, helping children grow into thoughtful and compassionate people.

As Dorothy once said in The Wizard of Oz, “If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own backyard.” Books remind us that sometimes the greatest adventures begin with the turn of a page, right here in our classrooms and homes. May the love of reading continue to inspire and transform the lives of our children in wonderful ways.

We are truly blessed to have a vibrant Junior School library at the heart of our community, and we thank Mrs Munro for the care and dedication she brings in making it a warm and welcoming place for all students and families to share in the joy of reading.

The love of reading begins in the very early stages of learning. This year we launched InitialLit in our early years, and it was wonderful to see our Pre-Primary Green students celebrate this at their assembly with a joyful letter parade. InitialLit is a structured literacy approach designed to build strong foundations in reading and writing for our youngest learners, and the children’s confidence and enthusiasm were a delight to witness.

Not all our recent wins have been in the classroom, some have been on the sporting field! Both our Modcrosse and League Tag teams were undefeated at the recent CAPSS carnival. Congratulations to Mr Trickett and all our athletes for their excellent display of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The next big event on the College calendar is our Junior Athletics Carnival. Please check the College calendar for full event details and the schedule for the day. Thank you to all the parents who have already volunteered their time to help, especially with set-up and pack-down. Your support makes these community events possible.

Our Year 6 students are also preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. A milestone in their faith journey as they take on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. As Pope Francis reminds us, “The Holy Spirit transforms and renews us, creates harmony, and gives us the courage to live our faith.” We ask our community to keep these students in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare for this special sacrament.

Upcoming events:

  • Tuesday, 26 August – Year 1 Green Assembly

  • Wednesday, 27 August – Friends of Corpus

  • Thursday, 28 August – Year 6 Confirmation Retreat

  • Tuesday, 2 September – Pre-Primary Green Prayer Assembly and Kindy Father’s Day Afternoon

  • Wednesday 3 September – Junior Photo Day

  • Thursday, 4 September – Year 2 Parish Mass

  • Friday, 5 September – Junior School Athletics Carnival

  • Saturday, 6 September – Year 6 Confirmation

May the weeks ahead continue to bring joy, growth, and God’s grace to our community.

Warm regards,

Katya Anderson

Head of Junior School

The Year 12 Volleyball Team delivered a strong performance in the A Division, showcasing skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition. They secured two wins and suffered just one loss in the group stage, narrowly missing out on a top-four finish by a single set. In the 5–8 playoff, they faced tough opposition and ultimately placed 7th overall. Every match was closely contested, and the team represented the College with pride and sportsmanship. Their efforts and spirit were commendable.

Well done team!

Seb Shines at National and State Swimming Championships

We’re thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Sebastian McGuiggan, who recently competed in both the School Sport Australia Aquatic Games in Brisbane and the WA Short Course Swimming State Championships—all within the same week!

At the School Sport Australia National event, Sebastian proudly brought home a bronze medal in the 4x50m Mixed Medley Relay (15–16 years), representing Western Australia on the national stage.

Just one day after returning from Brisbane, Seb dove straight into the WA State Championships, where he delivered an incredible performance:

  • 🏅 Gold – 100m Butterfly (WA State Champion)

  • 🥈 Silver – 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke, 100m IM, 200m IM

  • 🏊‍♂️ Additional top-10 finishes in multiple events, including freestyle and relay races

This marks only Sebastian’s second time competing at the WA Short Course State Championships, and his progress has been nothing short of phenomenal. Despite the packed schedule, Sebastian remains focused and enthusiastic, ticking off personal goals and inspiring those around him.

Congratulations, Sebastian, we’re so proud of your dedication and success!

Year 10 Girls AFL Team Triumphs at ACC Carnival

Term 3

Welcome to Week 4

College Value: Courage

In the previous edition of E-News, I reflected on how we as a community strive towards our Vison through living out our College Values in a real way each day. I took the opportunity to highlight how upholding our Value of Commitment allows students to harness opportunities to grow holistically.

In continuing this refection, I would like to shift focus to our Value of Courage.

As Jesus modelled, it takes courage to stand up for what is right and to actively contribute to the caring and harmonious community He envisaged. Jesus had the courage to face suffering, persecution, and ultimately, death on the cross in fulfilling God’s will, spreading the message of peace and love throughout the world.

Just as the Eucharist offers us unity in our faith, there are sacred opportunities in each day for all members of our community to be the Good Samaritan. This begins with having the courage to step forward, to go beyond ourselves and make a genuine difference.

As we look forward to the Feast of the Assumption this Friday, we are also inspired by the courage of Mother Mary to look for ways to find peace and as Pope Francis said, "see things with genuinely human eyes and hearts." Mary showed courage through her acceptance of God's will and her unwavering faith through challenging circumstances. Her courage is evident in her willingness to embrace God's plan. Mary inspires us to find courage in our own lives, particularly in times of uncertainty and hardship.

In being courageous, we move outside of our comfort zone to discover and learn. In doing so, we recognise the courage required to grow and transform. It is often easier for us to sit back and watch opportunities pass us by, however this does not allow us to develop our gifts and talents, nor to positively impact those around us. By constantly leaning into our discomfort, we learn to keep moving forward, to celebrate our achievements and to strive for growth and improvement of self and those around us.

We acknowledge our students for seeking out discomfort with energy to grow holistically and to serve others. A great recent example of this courage was at the Vinnie’s Winter Sleep Out held at the College on Friday 1 August to raise awareness and over $12,000 in support of the homeless. The students experienced what it was like to sleep rough, in cardboard boxes, in very cold and uncomfortable circumstances. Whilst others slept warmly at home, these students courageously took up the challenge to live out the experience of people without a home to go to. This initiative continues a long history at the College of supporting key fundraising initiatives to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We acknowledge our very dedicated students, supported by our wonderful staff, for their commitment and compassion.

We also acknowledge our Year 11 students who last week showed the courage to commit to their pilgrimage as part of the Year 11 Retreat program. A small group of students took up the challenge to complete a four day walk from New Norcia whilst the reminder of the cohort trekked from the College into St Mary’s Cathedral, allowing us to gather to celebrate Mass together. Both pilgrimages took students outside of their comfort zone and challenged them to work through discomfort to achieve their goal. Students are to be commended for the positive way that they supported one another and showed resilience and perseverance to complete their respective journeys.

The recent Senior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival provided another opportunity for students to demonstrate courage. It was inspiring to see so many students courageously investing themselves fully in the day, with many volunteering to compete in multiple events, often outside of their field of expertise. Students willingly stepped forward to support their House, cheer on their peers and compete with energy, passion and spirit.

Of course, courage is very much present in the daily learning routines of our students each and every day as they choose to make sacrifices and prioritise their academic progress. It takes courage to genuinely reflect on one’s progress and to choose to seek out support from teachers and their peers and to adjust goals and implement strategies to improve performance.

We encourage all of our students to have the courage of their convictions – that is having the bravery and confidence to act in accordance with what they believe is right, even when facing opposition or criticism. In building Community at Corpus Christi, we priortise ‘Belonging’, ‘Empowerment’ and ‘Care’, with the aim of establishing a warm and inclusive environment which builds confidence in students, allowing them to courageously commit to their holistic growth and development.

Best wishes and every blessing

E-News Week 4

Dear Parents and Guardians.

Next week, we look forward to celebrating Children’s Book Week 2025, with this year’s theme “Book an Adventure”. The theme invites us all to open the pages of a book and step into new worlds, exploring far-off places, meeting extraordinary characters, and discovering the joy that only reading can bring.

Last week, 5 Green set the perfect scene with their wonderful assembly celebrating their love of reading and all the different types of books you can read. Their performance reminded us how stories can take us on incredible journeys – whether it’s sailing across oceans, exploring magical lands, or simply seeing the world through someone else’s eyes.

As children’s author Michael Morpurgo once said, “It’s the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom. The same goes for books: it’s the adventure inside that counts, not the cover.” This sentiment beautifully reflects the spirit of Book Week – that every book holds a world waiting to be explored.

Please stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks about our upcoming Junior School Athletics Carnival, a day of fun, teamwork, and school spirit that you won't want to miss!

Car Park Reminder

We are aware that some sections of the Junior School car park and drive-thru can be challenging during busy periods, and we are working towards a long-term solution. In the meantime, we kindly ask all families to practise patience, avoid speeding, and follow the traffic guidelines at all times. The safety of our students is our highest priority.

Sailing to Success: Harriet Mellor Represents Australia in Japan

Year 9 Xavier student Harriet Mellor recently showcased her talent on the world stage, representing Australia at the prestigious Open Skiff World Championship held in Osaka, Japan.

Competing against top young sailors from across the globe, Harriet placed 38th overall and secured an impressive 8th place in the U/17 girls category. The Australian team delivered a standout performance, with one teammate claiming the title of U/17 World Champion.

Despite facing challenging conditions—including light winds and strong currents—Harriet embraced the opportunity with determination and grace. The experience was not only a sporting milestone but also a personal one, as she formed lasting friendships with fellow competitors from around the world.

Congratulations to Harriet on this incredible achievement!

Term 3

Welcome to Week 2

Welcome to the start of a new term at Vlog. I hope that families enjoyed the break and spent some quality time together. It was wonderful to welcome staff and students back to school last week to continue their learning journey at the College.

College Value: Commitment

At Corpus Christi we promote three core Values which underpin all that we do at the College. It is through the Values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion that we live out our Mission of Igniting the Spirit and strive towards our Vision of being Outstanding for Others.

We talk often at the school about the importance of us living out these Values in a real and tangible way and plan authentic opportunities to allow this to come to fruition. In making the commitment to fully invest themselves in the life of the school, students harness the growth potential of these opportunities and develop holistically.

In reaching out to others, students model Jesus who committed His life to us with courage and compassion. He was committed to justice and mercy for all and made many sacrifices in service of others. In the image of Jesus, all members of our community are called to do good works; operating with a sense of social justice and tenderness.

When students choose to commit to an action, cause or goal they challenge themselves to overcome obstacles and hardships, to be open to new learnings and opportunities and to be perseverant and resilient. Commitment provides a stepping stone to growth, it builds credibility and trust amongst teams and grows positive culture and legacy. Commitment anchors choice and promotes positive habits and consistent routines. Continuously committing to high levels of effort and application is a core ingredient to learning.

Upon returning to a new semester, we encourage our students to reflect on their previous efforts with a view of committing to continued growth moving forward. To help facilitate this commitment, students can set clear and measurable goals, create windows of dedicated study time, partner with others to improve accountability and track progress though regular reviews and reflections.

A return to a new semester is also the ideal opportunity for us to collectively review the commitment we make when we join a community like Corpus Christi. With an extensive history of over 40 years, we have a long-lasting legacy built through the commitment of many. When students choose to come to our school, they make the commitment to uphold our values system and contribute positively to our special community. Our students have an active role to play in promoting a positive, caring and inclusive culture where individual gifts and talents are celebrated. In committing to our College and wearing their uniform with pride, they connect themselves to our story and proudly, publicly represent what it stands for.

It is wonderful to see so many of our students committing fully to the life of our school in a multitude of different ways. We applaud our students for choosing to step into the broad array of differentiated learning avenues available at Corpus Christi to develop and grow their talents. There are so many examples of our students committing with dedication – most recently at our College Dance Gala.  Students from Years 4 to 12 committed their time and efforts over the course of the last semester to hone a terrific array of dance and musical theatre numbers, culminating in our three-evening Dance Gala last week. Students have right to be incredibly proud of their remarkable and highly professional performances supported by a very dedicated team of staff. Congratulations to all involved.

In continuing the Arts theme, our College Arts Captains joined our Head of Performing Arts, Mrs Jo Palmer, Deputy Principal Catholic Identity and Mission, Mr Damian Ramos, and myself at the Spirit of the Arts Mass at the Cathedral last week. This special occasion marks the opening of the Arts festival, with students from the College again heavily involved this year. Well done to these students for their commitment to the Arts and best wishes for their upcoming performances.

We acknowledge the commitment of our Year 12 students who gave of themselves so openly and generously at their Retreat in Week 10 of last term. Their experiences on Retreat in their final year at the College are special and long lasting. We also commend students from Years 9-12 who will be braving the elements on Friday at the annual Vinnies Winter Sleep Out to raise money and awareness for the homeless. We acknowledge these students for committing to being uncomfortable for a night in support of those less fortunate than themselves and to shine a light on the plight of around 122,500 people who are currently homeless in Australia.

We wish our Year 6 students well for their Confirmation workshop, scheduled for this evening at the College, and for their Commitment Masses, scheduled for this weekend at St Thomas More Parish Church. This is a special time in the lives of these students as they confirm their commitment to God and their faith through the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Finally, we look forward to our Senior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival taking place on Thursday this week. This is a special opportunity for students to commit to their Houses with spirit and energy by participating fully in the day.

It is plain to see and easy to celebrate the terrific commitment of our students to the life of the College. This core Value of ours is a key ingredient to allow students to grow holistically and to shape their College community and the world around them positively.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Principal

E-News Week 2

Dear Parents and Guardians

As we wrap up the first week of Term 3, I would like to warmly welcome all our families back to what promises to be a vibrant and meaningful term. I hope the school break provided your family with moments of rest, reflection, and renewal.

This term, we continue our journey through the Jubilee Year of Hope — a call to recognise the promise of growth, even in the face of challenge, and to move forward with faith in the goodness that lies ahead. Inspired by the words of the late Pope Francis, who reminded us that “hope speaks to us of a thirst, an aspiration, a longing for a life of fulfilment, a desire to achieve great things,” we aim to nurture a culture where our students remain curious, courageous, and compassionate in all they do.

We have already begun the term on a joyful and energetic note with the success of our Dance Gala on Wednesday evening. Our talented Year 6 students, along with our Year 4/5 Dance Collage group, took to the stage with confidence and creativity, showcasing the results of their hard work and dedication. We are incredibly proud of their performances and look forward to seeing them share their talents again at the upcoming Catholic Performing Arts Festival concerts.

There is much more to look forward to this term — from special liturgical celebrations to engaging learning experiences, leadership milestones, and opportunities to connect as a faith-filled community.

Building a Love for Reading: Decodable Readers and Novel Studies in Action

- Mrs de Groot

This year our school has been increasing the use of decodable readers to support our young learners in developing strong foundational reading skills. These specially designed books align with our new InitialLit program, which provides a structured and evidence-based approach to literacy instruction. Decodable readers give students the opportunity to practice the phonics patterns they are learning in class, helping to build confidence, accuracy, and fluency in reading. This approach ensures that all children are supported as they move towards becoming independent, successful readers.

For students in Years 3–6, we have also invested in sets of engaging class novels to support the development of reading skills through novel study. This approach, which is outlined as a key component of the Western Australian Curriculum, encourages students to explore texts in greater depth, enhancing their comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking. Our selection includes a diverse range of literature, including works by Indigenous authors, to ensure students are exposed to a variety of voices and perspectives. These shared reading experiences not only strengthen literacy skills but also foster a love of reading and an appreciation for Australia's rich cultural heritage.

May this term be filled with moments of joy, growth, and meaningful connection for you and your family.

Re: Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum

I am writing to inform you about the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC) that your child/children will be learning throughout the year at Vlog. The KS:CPC is a Department for Education responsibility under the Children’s Protection Act 1993 and the Child Protection in Schools, Early Childhood Education and Care Services policy to ensure that effective abuse prevention programs are implemented and that all children and young people have access to the approved child protection curriculum.

It is a requirement that all K-12 students receive a protective behaviours and sexual abuse prevention education which is developed by experts in child abuse prevention, is age and developmental stage appropriate, is culturally appropriate, is integrated into the curriculum of the school and make relevant subject matter links, includes e-safety education and builds practice self-protective skills and strategies. Although parent permission is not required under the Education Act 1972, we encourage parents/carers to seek further clarification from their child’s classroom teacher if required and to provide the teacher with any relevant information about their child that could alleviate any concerns.

The KS: CPC is an evidence based, best practice curriculum developed collaboratively with child protection experts, teachers, educational leaders and other professionals. Our teachers delivering the program receive ongoing training in the use of the Keeping Safe Curriculum.

The KS: CPC is divided into 5 documents specific to the age and year level of students. There are an additional three documents for educators working with:

  • Aboriginal children and young people

  • Culturally and linguistically diverse children and young people

  • Children and young people with disability and additional needs.

The KSCPC is based on two main themes which are presented through topics and activities of increasing complexity. The two KSCPC Themes are:

  • Theme 1: We all have the right to be safe

  • Theme 2: We can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust.

The two KS:CPC Themes are explored through four Focus Areas, which are examined in growing complexity in accordance with the age of the students. The four KS:CPC Focus Areas are:

  • Focus Area 1: The right to be safe

  • Focus Area 2: Relationships

  • Focus Area 3: Recognising and reporting abuse

  • Focus Area 4: Protective strategies

The KS:CPC fits primarily within the Health and Physical Education learning area of the Australian Curriculum and is complemented by the URSTRONG friendship program. Lessons are often integrated across other learning areas. At Vlog the KS:CPC ensures your child/children’s wellbeing is prioritised and the pastoral care provided by the teaching and non- teaching staff is aligned to national practices and guidelines.

Term 2

Welcome to Week 10

Week 10

Welcome to the final week of another very exciting and fulfilling term at the College. In reflecting back over the semester, we celebrate the way that our students have stepped into their learning and involved themselves in the myriad of curricular and co-curricular opportunities at the school.

Ready to Learn – Semester Reports

In being ‘Ready to Learn’, students see and seek out available growth opportunities. They remain at the ready to commit with confidence and enthusiasm to their own learning. They courageously step outside of their comfort zone to make new discoveries. They remain compassionately available to others to support them along their journey. Students are then agents of their own learning which is such a critical skill in today’s modern world. The content and questions might change, but the ability to shape one’s own path and to think critically, to work collaboratively and to act to solve problems are essential future skills and attributes.

As a school we encourage the development of these traits through the establishment of a warm and caring culture, underpinned by core values, complemented by a plethora of learning pathways. We celebrate the important partnership that connects school to home and the positive relationship we have with students that allows them to shine.

The end of a semester provides students with the excellent opportunity to pause and reflect on their Readiness to Learn. The semester reports allow students to celebrate their achievement and also to reflect on their potential areas of growth. Students, in partnership with parents and staff, can review goals, analyse successes and explore future actions that will support their ongoing growth. They can look to strategies they have implement that have worked in certain subjects with a view of replicating them elsewhere. Students can consider the time and effort they have committed to their studies to consider whether an adjustment may be necessary moving forward. There are no shortcuts to success – the key elements of effort, application and attitude are common ingredients of achieving well.

In being agents of their own learning, we want our students to seek out assistance from our teachers. We encourage them to ask questions, to be curious and to act on feedback received. In being open to opportunities and challenges our students grow. In approaching semester results with a growth mindset students plot clear pathways forward to set themselves up for future success.

Learning Anywhere Anytime

Students are to be commended for the positive and industrious way that they have committed to the College’s extensive co-curricular program over the course of Semester 1. We are passionate about providing holistic learning opportunities for students and have been thrilled with their energetic involvement in the activities and events on offer. The skills that they learn from being involved in our clubs, sports and arts programs, our faith and service opportunities, not to mention the leadership initiatives are life long and transferable.

Committing to these types of programs allows our students to connect with like-minded people, developing important social connections. It gives them a genuine voice in co-shaping initiatives. It allows our students to shine and to share their prodigious gifts and talents with others. These programs and initiatives allow our students to proudly promote our 40-year legacy and publicly and proudly represent our College in the boarder community. Importantly, our students’ rich engagement in the life of the school builds our positive culture of inclusivity and acceptance; of compassion and support; of belonging and connection and allows them to grow holistically.

Own Your Path

Over the past few weeks, our current Year 10 students have been actively engaging in course counselling sessions in preparation for Year 11 in 2026. These meetings with staff have provided a valuable opportunity for students to explore their individual learning pathways and make informed decisions about their subject choices for next year.

Through thoughtful discussions and guidance, students are gaining a clearer understanding of the options available to them and how these align with their interests, strengths, and future aspirations. We commend our Year 10s for their enthusiasm and maturity throughout this process and look forward to supporting them as they take the next exciting step in their educational journey.

Corpus Christi Feast Day

An outstanding example of our community gathering together in spirit and solidarity, celebrating out unique culture was Corpus Christ Feast Day. In recognising this special day, we gathered in the morning for our whole school Mass celebrated by Fr Phong. This beautiful Mass set the scene for the rest of the day, highlighting what it means to be the real presence of Jesus for others. We concluded the day with the annual talent show where students from across the College had the opportunity to showcase their impressive talents in front of a very positive, warm and receptive audience.

Despite the rain, students participated fully in the events and activities across the day. The leadership of our Year 12 students was exceptional. They modelled what it meant to be the Corpus Christi and contributed in such a positive way, bringing joy to those around them.

First Holy Communion

We congratulate our Year 4 students who recently completed their First Holy Communion at the St Thomas Parish Church. This very special time in their faith journey was the culmination of many weeks of preparation. We thank the Parish community and College staff for their support and guidance of our students during this significant time in their lives.

World’s Greatest Shave

Last Friday, a number of Year 12 students and staff participated in the World’s Greatest Shave to support the Leukaemia Foundation. This initiative, which raises funds for individuals and families affected by blood cancer, was embraced with enthusiasm and a strong sense of purpose by our school community.  Through their collective efforts and the generous support of donors, the team successfully raised over $12,000. Congratulations to all who participated, contributed, and supported this meaningful cause.

NAIDOC Week Assembly

Yesterday, our whole school came together for our NAIDOC Week assembly, celebrating this year’s theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.” The assembly was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the importance of First Nations culture, history, and contributions - especially as we look to the future and the role young people play in shaping a more inclusive and respectful Australia.

We were honoured to welcome the Wadumbah Aboriginal Dance Group, who shared the rich Noongar story through vibrant performance, music, and storytelling. Their presence brought deep cultural insight and connection to our community, reminding us of the strength and resilience of First Nations peoples. As a school, we continue to walk together in reconciliation and acknowledgement, committed to learning, understanding, and moving forward with respect and unity.

Year 12 Retreat

We wish all of our Year 12 students well as they venture out on their Retreat experience on Wednesday this week. Students will be attending four different sites, pausing their busy schedules to explore their own spiritual journey and their special connection with family and friends. We thank staff for their excellent support of our students on this very important occasion.

Holidays

As always at the end of the term, I would like to wish all students, families and staff well for the upcoming holiday break. We look forward to students returning to the College safe, well and energised to commence Term 3.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Principal

E-News Week 10

Dear Parents and Guardians,

"You are never alone on this Earth. You are always part of a bigger story.” – Oliver Jeffers, “The Heart and the Bottle”

As we close out Term 2 in this Jubilee Year of Hope, this quote from Oliver Jeffers reminds us that even in the smallest moments of growth, kindness and courage, we are all contributing to something much greater — a shared story of community, faith, and purpose.

Throughout the term, our students have continued to flourish — embracing challenges, showing compassion, and living out our College values with spirit and strength. Whether in classrooms, on the stage, at sporting events, or through acts of quiet leadership and care, they have made us all proud.

I also want to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of our staff. Their passion for teaching and genuine care for every student create the environment in which so many moments of success and discovery take place each day. I am deeply grateful for the energy and professionalism they bring to our learning community.

These past two weeks alone have reflected the vibrancy and spirit of our College:

  • Corpus Christi Day brought our K–12 community together in a joyful celebration of faith and belonging.

  • Many of our Year 4 students received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, marking a significant and sacred milestone in their faith journey.

  • Our Sporting Carnivals showcased teamwork, resilience and House spirit, with students cheering each other on and striving for their personal best.

  • Our Junior Assemblies have highlighted learning achievements and the confident voices of our students.

  • The energy at the Junior Disco was contagious, with dancing, laughter and community fun filling the evening.

  • And our Kindy Mud Day reminded us all of the joy that comes from curiosity, nature, and hands-on exploration.

I am proud of the way our students have approached this term. With courage in their learning, compassion for one another, and commitment to their growth. I also thank our dedicated staff for their ongoing care, creativity, and tireless work in nurturing every child.

As we head into the holiday break, may this be a time of renewal, connection and rest for all families. Thank you for your ongoing support and trust. I look forward to all that awaits in Term 3.

"Let us be infected by the love of God infect us. Let us allow it to guide our life and offer it to others." – Pope Francis

Warm regards,

Term 2

Welcome to Week 8

The Feast of the Corpus Christi

The Feast of the Corpus Christi is a very special event in the life of our school. It is a time when we stop to celebrate our unique community and reflect on the true meaning of the name of our College.

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which translates from Latin to "Body of Christ." It is a time, according to Pope Francis, for us to remember that “God will meet their basic needs to eat and to be filled with the joy and amazement of receiving loving nourishment from Jesus Christ”.

During last year’s Solemnity of Corpus Christi Mass, Pope Francis spoke of Jesus giving us His Body and Blood, teaching us to give of ourselves to those around us who are in need: “There are some who say that true freedom means thinking only about ourselves, enjoying life, doing whatever we want without regard for others. This is not freedom but a hidden slavery.” True freedom, the Pope said, is when we serve others, “motivated solely by love.”

During this homily, Pope Francis said that the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist “invites us to be close to our brothers and sisters wherever love calls us.” He said that “we urgently need to bring back to our world the good, fresh aroma of the bread of love, to continue tirelessly to hope and rebuild what hatred destroys”.

We are excited at gathering together as a whole K-12 school community this Friday to celebrate our Vlog Feast Day and reflect on how we can model Jesus by being truly present for others. The day provides us with the opportunity to consider how we can model Jesus and fulfil our College Vison of being Outstanding for Others. It allows us to celebrate the fact that, again as Pope Francis said, “Christ himself is truly in our midst to nourish us, console us, and sustain us along the way”.

In looking to Jesus as our role model, we seek to ‘love one another’ just as he loved us, to bring peace to our world and to be of service to others.

Our Feast Day also allows us to celebrate our very special and unique history built across two schools over the past four decades. The wonderful legacy created by so many past families, students, staff and friends is one we never take for granted but revere as we continue to grow our story through the continued contribution of many. As the Corpus Christi, the Body of Christ, we celebrate each person in our community and recognise the important role that they have in positively shaping our wonderful culture.

Pope Francis of course also spoke of joy being a “gift from God”, so we are looking forward to a fun-filled day on Friday where we pause our busy routines to take time out to be with one another and enjoy participating in a wide variety of exciting planned activities and events. We thank Fr Phong in advance for celebrating our whole school Mass on this very special occasion.

St Thomas More Parish – Sunday 22 June 2025

This year, the St Thomas More Feast Day will be celebrated on the same day as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi at the Parish Church. This is a very special day for the St Thomas More Parish as they will also be celebrating the Jubilee of Government, the Jubilee of Seminarians, the Jubilee of Priests and the Jubilee of Bishops.

As Fr Phong says, “there is much to be thankful for and much to pray for”. The Parish will mark this very special occasion by having Mass, followed by a Eucharistic Procession, which will include parts of the College, and a shared meal. Fr Phong has extended an invitation to College staff, students and families to attend any or all of these events. Details are as follows:

Date: Sunday 22 June 2025

  • 10.00 am - Holy Mass

  • 11.00 am - Eucharistic Procession with recitation of the Rosary.

  • 12.00 pm - Return to the church and Benediction

  • 12.05 pm - Shared Meal

First Holy Communion

We look forward to our Year 4 students celebrating their First Holy Communion this weekend at the St Thomas More Parish.

We thank the St Thomas More Parish and our Year 4 teachers for their generous support in preparing the students for this very special occasion. We wish all students well for this special day in the life of their faith journey.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Principal

E-News Week 8

Dear Parents and Carers

As we move into the final weeks of Term 2, the energy and pace across the Junior School continue to build. This is a particularly busy time for staff and students as Semester One reports are being finalised. These reports are an important opportunity to reflect on the growth, progress, and achievements of each individual student over the first half of the year. It is a privilege to witness the many ways our students continue to flourish both academically and personally.

Over the past fortnight, we’ve enjoyed several significant events that highlight the spirit and learning taking place across our community.

6 Blue Assembly

Our 6 Blue students entertained and informed us with their fun and engaging class assembly, presented in a creative "newsroom" style. It was a student-led showcase of learning, humour, and teamwork, and a wonderful reflection of their confidence and collaboration.

Primary LifeLink Launch

Earlier this term, two of our Catholic Mission and Identity student leaders proudly represented our school at the Primary LifeLink Launch. They joined students from across the Archdiocese for a morning of learning, reflection, and inspiration. A special highlight was the opportunity to ask questions directly to Archbishop Timothy Costelloe and Bishop Don Sproxton, who generously shared their wisdom and insights. It was a meaningful experience that deepened our students’ understanding of the role they play in supporting those in need.

Grit, Goals and Gales – CCC Storms the CAPSS VANS!

On Tuesday 10 June, our Junior School students braved wild weather at the CAPSS VANS carnival, showing incredible perseverance, teamwork and school spirit.

  • AFL – 2nd place: Resilient and united in tough conditions.

  • Netball – 3rd place: Strong teamwork and determination.

  • Soccer – 5th place: Great sportsmanship and focus.

  • Volleyball – 7th place: Positive, spirited and growing each game.

Despite the rain and wind, our students represented Vlog with Courage, Commitment and Compassion. Well done to all involved!

First Holy Communion Preparation

Our Year 4 students recently participated in a reverent and joyful retreat in preparation for receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion this coming weekend. The retreat was a beautiful time of prayer, reflection, and connection, helping the students prepare their hearts to receive Jesus in a special and sacred way. We encourage families to take time this week to talk with their child about the importance of this sacrament and celebrate this milestone in their faith journey.

Healthy Eating Habits

A nutritious lunchbox fuels growing bodies and active minds! Healthy lunchbox items help our students stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn throughout their school day. Please include a balance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy to ensure their physical health and lifelong habits for wellbeing begin as early as possible.

Items for consumption at ‘Crunch and Sip’ time are asked to be whole fruits such as apples or pre-cut fruit and vegetables. Yoghurt and cereal-based snacks are best left for recess. Thank you for your support.

For ideas on healthy lunch box inclusions, please access the following link:

Child Safeguarding

Please be aware that the atrium toilet cubicles are reserved for student use only. Accessible toilets for adults and younger siblings are in the Junior Administration block and are available for use upon request.

Junior School Disco

Our Junior School disco is fast approaching, so please indicate your child’s attendance by submitting your permission via Consent2Go. The disco is reserved for enrolled students at the school from Kindergarten to Year 6; therefore, younger siblings cannot attend.

Upcoming events:

  • Wednesday 18 June - Junior Ethics Olympiad

  • Friday 20 June – Corpus Christi Day

  • Saturday 21 June – First Holy Communion

  • Tuesday 24 June – 2 Blue Assembly

  • Wednesday 25 June – Salvado and Chisholm Patron Day

  • Monday 30 June - NAIDOC Assembly

  • Tuesday 1 July – CAPSS Interschool Cross Country and Pre-Primary Blue Assembly

As we near the end of the week, we look forward to celebrating Corpus Christi Day—the Feast Day of our College. This special occasion brings together students from Pre-Primary to Year 12 in a joyful expression of community, faith, and belonging. It is a time for us to reflect on what it means to be Outstanding for Others through the Spirit of Hope. As Pope Francis reminds us, “In the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come.” We are proud to stand together as a K–12 community, united in purpose and inspired by the message of hope.

Warm regards,

Katya Anderson

Head of Junior School

Silent Auction - Handcrafted Glass Platter: Shifting Perspectives

Meet Gaby Fabris, a passionate and dedicated Visual Arts educator whose journey at Vlog began in 1990.

When she joined the College under the leadership of Tony Curtis, there were just 600 students and a single Visual Arts teacher - her!

Over the years, Gaby has nurtured young artists, developed a thriving Arts department, and shared her deep-rooted passion for sculpture, ceramics, and in recent years glasswork, with students and colleagues alike. With a background in Art Education and Fine Art from WAIT (now Curtin University), Gaby has spent her career mentoring aspiring creatives and encouraging artistic exploration. Her journey into glass artistry is particularly special, her Murano, Venice heritage traces back to a lineage of master glassmakers, making this medium both deeply personal and historically significant. Now, she shares this incredible craft with students, fostering a culture of artistic exploration and creative discovery.

In celebration of Corpus Christi Day, we are delighted to present a unique opportunity to bid on a stunning, handcrafted glass platter by Gaby Fabris, a striking piece titled Shifting Perspectives. Measuring approximately 29cm square, this one-of-a-kind artwork shimmers with iridescent flecks, symbolising hope, transformation, and the beauty of change. The gentle pink hues evoke love, nurture, and compassion, while the contrasting black signifies the mystery and richness of viewing the world through unfamiliar lenses.

Don’t miss the chance to own this breathtaking masterpiece while supporting Project Compassion, a cause close to the heart of our College.

Place your silent auction bid and celebrate the legacy of an extraordinary educator & artist. The highest silent auction bid will win and announced on Corpus Christi Day!

Feast of Corpus Christi

A Eucharistic Community

Each year, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi: the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This celebration draws our focus to the central mystery of our faith: that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. This year, the Church marks the feast on Sunday 22 June, while our College will gather as a whole-school community to celebrate it earlier on Friday 20 June.

As a school named Corpus Christi, the feast is especially meaningful. It reminds us that we are a Eucharistic people, called to make Christ’s presence in the Eucharist known through our actions, our relationships, and our service to others.

A Special Moment for Our Year 4 Students

This year’s celebration holds particular significance as our Year 4 students will receive their First Holy Communion between our College Feast Day and the official Church celebration of Corpus Christi. As these students prepare to receive the Body of Christ for the first time, they lead all of us in renewing our own understanding and love of the Eucharist.

Their journey is a reminder that every reception of the Eucharist is an invitation to be transformed – to become what we receive and to carry Christ with us in the world. As a College, it’s a joy to walk alongside them during this special time.

The Spirit of Hope in a Jubilee Year

The Church around the world is also celebrating the Jubilee Year of 2025, a time of renewal and grace under the theme "Pilgrims of Hope." The lead-up is focused on building a Spirit of Hope among Catholics: hope in God’s promises, hope in the Church, and hope in the future.

Our celebration of Corpus Christi is deeply connected to this theme. The Eucharist is a sacrament of hope: a sign that Christ is with us, that God’s love is never far away, and that we are never alone on the journey. As we move through this Jubilee Year, our College community is invited to walk as pilgrims of hope – grounded in the Eucharist, and committed to living with courage, commitment and compassion.

Pilgrimage to Orvieto: A Sacred Connection

Next year, students and staff taking part in our College Pilgrimage to Italy will have the chance to visit the historic town of Orvieto. This town holds a special place in the story of Corpus Christi. In the year 1263, a German priest who struggled with belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist experienced a miracle while celebrating Mass nearby, the host began to bleed during the consecration. The blood-stained cloth was brought to the Pope in Orvieto, who declared it a sign of God’s truth and love. He soon established the Feast of Corpus Christi for the entire Church.

The beautiful Orvieto Cathedral was built to house the relic, and it remains a sacred site to this day. For our pilgrims, visiting Orvieto will be a powerful moment, not just of witnessing Church history, but of standing in the place where faith and doubt met, and hope triumphed.

Living as the Body of Christ

As we prepare for our College Mass and the wider feast of Corpus Christi, we are reminded of who we are: a community formed by Christ’s Body and called to be His Body in the world.

Let us pray for our Year 4s as they take this sacred step, for our pilgrims preparing to walk in the footsteps of saints, and for all in our College community, that we may live with a spirit of hope, trusting that Christ is with us, always.

Lord Jesus and His Church, the Body of Christ: Pray for us.

Walking Together: Our Commitment to Reconciliation

At Vlog, our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Committee has been working with purpose and care to guide our community in deepening our understanding of and commitment to reconciliation with First Nations Australians. This work is grounded in our Catholic identity, our College values, and our belief in the dignity of every person.

As part of this journey, we marked National Reconciliation Week with a moving Sorry Day Assembly on 26 May. Across both the Junior and Senior Schools, students engaged in learning about the Stolen Generations and the ongoing impact of these policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. In our Senior School, we were privileged to hear a powerful testimony from Lee, a member of our staff, whose mother and brother were members of the Stolen Generation. Lee was joined by her Aunty Jacqueline, an Elder who spoke with courage about her own experience of being removed, and how her faith gave her strength and hope.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for a NAIDOC Week Assembly in Week 10, which will bring together our whole College in a shared celebration of First Nations culture. Junior School students will contribute through song, and we will welcome Noongar performers to lead us in story, music, and reflection in a rich K–12 experience.

These moments are not standalone events, they are part of a larger commitment to truth-telling, listening, and walking together. Our RAP Committee continues to lead initiatives and conversations that help shape a more just and compassionate future for our community. We are working toward finalising our first Reconciliation Action Plan by the end of 2025, as we hope to continue walking this path with purpose and hope into 2026 and beyond.

Vive le Tour! – Celebrating French Culture through the Tour de France Alexandra CarcioneWed, 11 Jun 2025 02:31:09 +0000/news-blog/2025/vive-le-tour57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:6848e73c7ea4281f451423d6As part of our ongoing celebration of French language and culture at Vlog, we are excited to introduce our students and school community to France's most iconic sporting event: Le Tour de France.

Known as La Grande Boucle (the Great Loop), the Tour de France is the world's most prestigious cycling race and one of the most watched sporting events globally. This year's 112th edition will commence on Saturday, 5 July 2025, in Lille, northern France, and will conclude on Sunday, 27 July 2025 with the traditional finish on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. For the first time in five years, the Tour will take place exclusively within France, allowing riders and spectators to experience the full diversity of l'Hexagone.

A Rich History of Competition

The Tour de France began in 1903 and has grown to become cycling's greatest challenge. Over three weeks, the world's best cyclists will navigate 3,320 kilometres of France's most beautiful and challenging terrain, from the cobblestones of the north to the soaring peaks of the Alps and Pyrénées.

Australia has a proud Tour de France history since 1914. Phil Anderson blazed the trail as the first Australian to wear yellow (1981) and first non-European to lead the race, holding it for nine days in 1982. Cadel Evans made history as Australia's only Tour winner in 2011 at age 34. Notable stars include Robbie McEwen (Green Jersey winner), Richie Porte (top-10 finisher), and Caleb Ewan (stage winner). Australia's 2025 representatives include Ben O'Connor, Jai Hindley, and Luke Plapp, continuing our strong Tour de France legacy.

Did You Know? Les Maillots – The Sacred Jerseys

The Tour de France is famous for its coloured jerseys, each telling a fascinating story of excellence and achievement:

  • Le Maillot Jaune (The Yellow Jersey) – Yellow was chosen in 1919 to match the colour of the pages of L'Auto, the newspaper that created the Tour! This jersey is worn by the overall race leader and is the most coveted prize in professional cycling.

  • Le Maillot Vert (The Green Jersey) – This jersey rewards the most consistent sprinter and versatile rider. It's awarded to the points classification winner who demonstrates speed and reliability across all types of stages.

  • Le Maillot à Pois Rouges (The Polka Dot Jersey) – The distinctive red polka dots on white background honour the "King of the Mountains"! This jersey celebrates those brave enough to conquer France's most challenging peaks.

  • Le Maillot Blanc (The White Jersey) – This jersey is reserved exclusively for the best young rider under 26 years old. It represents the future stars of cycling and symbolizes emerging talent and unlimited potential!

The 2025 Route – Un Parcours Magnifique

This year's route promises spectacular scenery and fierce competition as the peloton travels through historic French regions, medieval villages, and iconic landscapes that have shaped French culture for centuries. From the industrial heritage of the north to the vineyard-covered hills of Burgundy and the dramatic mountain stages that will determine the final champion.

Dans la classe -  In the classroom

As we follow the race in class this year, we will explore vocabulary related to cycling, geography, and Francophone culture — helping students engage with authentic, real-world language experiences.

Welcome to Week 6

Capital Development Plan Stage 22: Junior School Refurbishment

We are delighted to share with our community the exciting news that the long-awaited refurbishment of the two Junior School Atriums and adjoining classrooms will commence towards the end of this year. The design and development of this stage of the College’s ongoing Capital Development Plan has been years in the making so we are very pleased that it is coming to fruition.

I would like to acknowledge the input of parents, students and staff into the design of the spaces which will fully modernise classrooms and promote the delivery of contemporary and innovative holistic learning opportunities for students. The plan extends to the outside of the buildings with the integration of learning spaces into the landscape to support the notion that ‘learning happens anywhere, anytime’. Students will have the opportunity to therefore experience a continuity of learning wherever they are on the campus.

I would also like to acknowledge College Architects, Munns Sly Moore, for their considerable time and effort in developing Stage 22, along with Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) for their assistance.

The Junior School refurbishment is a considerable undertaking with an envisaged completion date scheduled towards the end of 2027. The build will necessitate certain adjustments to the regular school routines, however, please rest assured that the plans we have in place will support the welfare and ongoing learning of students. Further details of this exciting phase in the College’s history are as follows:

Refurbishment Works to Begin – James Nestor Auditorium

Refurbishment works will commence this week on the James Nestor Auditorium, with an expected completion date in November 2025. This space is being transformed to serve as a temporary learning area for our Year 5 and 6 students while the College undertakes major capital development works at the Junior School. To view a map of where the James Nestor Auditorium is located, please visit the map here.

Stage 22 Capital Development Program – A Two-Year Transformation

This refurbishment is a key early step in our broader Stage 22 Capital Development Program, a two-year initiative that will deliver significant improvements to our Junior School facilities, including:

  • Senior Atrium refurbishment and enclosure – Commencing December 2025, to be completed by end of 2026

  • Junior Atrium refurbishment and enclosure – Commencing end of 2026, to be completed in 2027

During this time, the James Nestor Auditorium will remain the designated learning space for Year 5 and 6 students, ensuring a high-quality, consistent learning environment is maintained.

Acknowledging our Arts and Music Staff and Students

We extend our sincere thanks to the Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and Music departments (staff and students) for their support and flexibility in accommodating this refurbishment project. Their cooperation has been instrumental in allowing this important work to proceed smoothly.

The College has successfully planned to relocate the activities of our Music students to alternative facilities within the Performing Arts precinct at the College to ensure the continuation of their experience.

Parent Information Session and Community Feedback

To ensure families are fully informed, the College will host a Parent Information Session for Junior School families in the coming weeks. This session will provide further detail about the refurbishment and the Stage 22 building program, along with an opportunity for parents and caregivers to ask questions and share feedback.

We thank our staff, students, families, and wider community for their ongoing support as we undertake this exciting phase of capital development at Vlog. This refurbishment is an important milestone for us as a K-12 community. It supports our continued growth and development as an aligned College that strives to create the best possible learning environment for students.

To provide you with an exciting glimpse of what the future holds for the Junior School space, we invite you to access the Architect’s design impressions by clicking the button below.

In this Jubilee Year of HOPE, we are especially reminded of the importance of coming together to celebrate progress, foster understanding and uplift one another. Over the past fortnight, students have participated in a number of meaningful experiences that highlight not only their academic growth, but also their commitment to living out our College values in action. From reflective assemblies to outstanding sporting achievements, there is much to be proud of across our community.

National Sorry Day – Honouring the Past, Committing to the Future

Our Years 1 to 6 students gathered last week for a reflective and meaningful National Sorry Day Assembly, led with dignity and compassion by our student leaders Jasmine Wassell and Joanne Noel. Together, we paused to acknowledge the historical injustices faced by the Stolen Generations and to consider our role in walking the path of ongoing reconciliation. At Vlog, we remain committed to fostering empathy, truth-telling and a deepening understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across our school community. Reconciliation is not a one-day event—it’s a journey we walk together, each and every day.

Crossing the Finish Line in Corpus Style!

Our Junior School team showed true determination and sportsmanship at last week’s SSWA Junior Cross Country Carnival. Competing against over 50 schools, our runners gave it their all—earning top 10 finishes, personal bests, and a wave of school spirit. Special congratulations to Solomon Martin (Year 6 Runner-Up), Harvey Clarke (5th), and Hayden Willey and Hendrix Olislaegers (both 9th place).

As always, we thank our families for their ongoing support. The wonderful efforts of our students at the Cross Country Carnival were a shining example of what it means to be a proud member of Vlog—demonstrating determination, respect, and team spirit. We kindly remind all parents attending external events to familiarise themselves with our Parent Code of Conduct, ensuring we continue to uphold a positive and respectful presence in the wider community.

3 Green Assembly – Literacy and a Star Among Us

3 Green delighted the Junior School with an engaging assembly, showcasing the incredible progress they’ve made through the Initial Lit program. The students confidently demonstrated their growing literacy skills through vibrant performances and clever storytelling. The assembly also included a special tribute to Gisella, a talented student from our College who recently appeared on Australian Idol. Her journey has inspired many of our students, and it was heartwarming to see 3 Green celebrate both learning and local talent in such a meaningful way.

Strengthening Literacy in Years 3–6

This year, alongside InitialLit in Pre-Primary to Year 2, we’ve introduced two evidence-based programs to further strengthen literacy in Years 3–6—SpellEx in Years 3 and 4, and Word Origins in Years 5 and 6.

SpellEx focuses on spelling through patterns, structure, and meaning rather than memorisation, helping students build deeper connections between words, pronunciation, and comprehension. Word Origins explores the history and structure of English, equipping students with tools to decode complex vocabulary and develop confidence in reading and writing.

These engaging programs are already making a positive impact in classrooms, supporting our students to become more capable, curious, and confident learners.

Upcoming events:

  • Thursday 5 June – Year 5 Parish Mass

  • Tuesday 10 June – 2G Prayer Assembly and CAPSS VANS Carnival

  • Thursday 12 June – First Holy Communion Retreat and Year 4 Parish Mass

As we look ahead to the remainder of Term 2, we are excited for the many learning opportunities, celebrations, and community moments still to come. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s learning journey. We encourage all families to stay connected by checking the College calendar regularly and keeping an eye out for updates via SEQTA. Together, we continue to nurture a vibrant and hopeful learning community at Vlog.

Warm regards,

Katya Anderson

Head of Junior School

Join Us in Making a Difference – World's Greatest Shave at Vlog!

This year, Vlog is proud to support the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave, standing in solidarity with thousands of Australians battling blood cancer. Our students and staff are stepping up, ready to shave, cut, or colour their hair to raise vital funds that go towards research, patient support, and finding a cure.

Blood cancer can impact anyone, at any time, and right now, more Australians are being diagnosed than ever before. By participating in or donating to the World's Greatest Shave, we can help provide life-saving treatment, crucial emotional support, and hope for families facing this challenge.

How You Can Help:

  • Donate to our Corpus Christi team – every dollar makes a difference!

  • Spread the word by sharing our fundraising efforts with family and friends.

  • Show your support on the day – cheer on those taking the brave step!

Let’s come together as a community, live our values of compassion and service, and help change lives. Join us in this incredible cause and be a part of something bigger!

Supporting Students with Disability through the NCCD

Each year, the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) gathers valuable information about Australian students with disability. This initiative helps schools, education authorities, and governments better understand how to support these students effectively in their learning environments.

We are currently in the implementation and validation stages of this year’s NCCD process.
