Mamma, Maman, Mum: Celebrating Mother’s Day Across LanguagesBrittney De GouveiaThu, 07 May 2026 06:59:26 +0000/news-blog/2026/mothers-day57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:69f81ceb2a65a5690a05dea1This Mother’s Day, our Languages Department would like to celebrate all the wonderful mothers, grandmothers, aunties, carers and mother figures in our school community. Whether they are making lunches, remembering permission slips, helping with homework, finding missing uniforms, driving to training, offering encouragement, or somehow knowing exactly where everything is in the house, mothers and mother figures play an extraordinary role in our lives.

In Italy, Mother’s Day is known as La Festa della Mamma. It is a day filled with affection, flowers, handmade cards, poems and family time. Italian children often call their mother mamma, or affectionately mammina, meaning “mummy” or “dear mum”. Naturally, food is never too far away. After all, in Italy, love is often expressed with a full plate and the words “Mangia, mangia!” -  “Eat, eat!”,  usually said even when you are already full.

In France, Mother’s Day is called La Fête des Mères. French families celebrate with flowers, cards and thoughtful gifts. Children may write poems, create drawings or prepare small surprises. A mother is often called maman, but children may also use affectionate nicknames such as mamounette, a sweet and tender way of saying “mummy” or “dear mum”. Like in Italy, the focus is on gratitude, affection and celebrating the important women who care for us every day.

This week, students have also had the opportunity to learn how to wish someone a Happy Mother’s Day in different languages:

In French: Bonne fête des mères!

In Italian: Felice Festa della Mamma!

So, from our Languages Department to all the amazing mothers and mother figures in our community:

Felice Festa della Mamma!
Bonne fête des mères!
Happy Mother’s Day!

Thank you for your love, patience, support and for all the little things you do every day, even the ones that somehow happen before anyone else has noticed they needed doing.

How to Pray the Rosary Corpus CommunicationsMon, 04 May 2026 06:37:14 +0000/news-blog/2026/how-to-pray-the-rosary57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:69f83e5fd5408a02b92b4557Rosary beads are used to help Catholics count their prayers. Catholics often pray the rosary to make a request to God, some to thank God for blessings received or for requesting a special favour, for example if someone is sick to help them recover.

Image from: https://www.dummies.com/religion/christianity/catholicism/how-to-pray-the-rosary/

1.    On the crucifix (cross), make the sign of the cross and then pray the Apostles’ Creed.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified; died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

2.    On the next large bead, say the Our Father.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

3.    On the following three small beads, pray three Hail Marys.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

4.    On the chain, pray The Glory Be.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

5.    On the large bead, meditate on the first mystery and pray the Our Father.

You pray mysteries for each of the five sections (decades) of the rosary according to the day of the week:

Mondays and Saturdays:

The Joyful Mysteries remind the faithful of Christ’s birth: The Annunciation (Luke 1:26–38); The Visitation (Luke 1:39–56); The Nativity (Luke 2:1–21); The Presentation (Luke 2:22–38); The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41–52)

Tuesdays and Fridays:

The Sorrowful Mysteries recall Jesus’ passion and death: The Agony of Jesus in the Garden (Matthew 26:36–56); The Scourging at the Pillar (Matthew 27:26); The Crowning with Thorns (Matthew 27:27–31); The Carrying of the Cross (Matthew 27:32); The Crucifixion (Matthew 27:33–56).

Wednesdays and Sundays:

The Glorious Mysteries focus on the resurrection of Jesus and the glories of heaven: The Resurrection (John 20:1–29); The Ascension (Luke 24:36–53); The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1–41); The Assumption of Mary, the Mother of God, into heaven; The Coronation of Mary in heaven.

Thursdays:

Pope John Paul II added The Mysteries of Light, also known as the Luminous Mysteries, in 2002: The Baptism in the River Jordan (Matthew 3:13–16); The Wedding Feast at Cana (John 2:1–11); The Preaching of the coming of the Kingdom of God (Mark 1:14–15); The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–8); The Institution of the Holy Eucharist (Matthew 26).

6.    Skip the centerpiece medallion, and on the ten beads after that, pray a Hail Mary on each bead; on the chain, pray a Glory Be.

Although a decade is 10, these 12 prayers form a decade of the rosary.

Many Catholics add the Fatima Prayer after the Glory Be and before the next Our Father: O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy. Amen.

7.    Repeat Steps 5 and 6 four more times to finish the next four decades.

8.    At the end of your Rosary, say the Hail Holy Queen.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation; grant we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Learning In ActionAlexandra CarcioneWed, 29 Apr 2026 08:44:50 +0000/news-blog/2026/learning-in-action57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:69f166e85c150a7b823836f5Learning in Action: Shrek the Musical Comes to Life

In the lead-up to the opening of Shrek the Musical, our production came to life in a powerful and exciting way this week as we welcomed visiting primary and senior school students to 糖心Vlog. Guests were invited to experience the first full run-throughs of the show, complete with technical elements, costume and makeup, offering a rare glimpse into the world behind the curtain.

We were also delighted that some of our own Year 5 and 6 students were fortunate to enjoy a special look at the production in action. For many, it was their first opportunity to see a large-scale school musical at such an advanced stage of preparation, creating excitement and inspiration as they witnessed learning brought to life on stage.

These live run-through experiences are incredibly rewarding for our Cast and Crew. Performing before an audience allows students to refine their timing, performance and stagecraft while building confidence and professionalism. At the same time, welcoming other schools onto campus strengthens connections within our wider community and reinforces our role as a collaborative hub of learning.

Senior students attended the performances as part of an authentic learning opportunity, supported by a curriculum-aligned resource pack designed to deepen their understanding of production, performance and creative processes. Through this experience, students were able to link theory with practice, observe collaboration in action and gain insight into the professional standards required in live theatre.

As a hub of learning, 糖心Vlog is proud to open its doors and share opportunities like these. Experiences such as drama productions, music performances and art exhibitions allow students to learn from one another and celebrate creativity across schools.

Schools interested in future opportunities are warmly invited to register their interest. When our next performance or exhibition comes to life, we may be in touch to invite you to experience learning in action at 糖心Vlog.

Register your interest and be part of the experience.

Term 2 2026

Welcome to Week 2

  • A very warm welcome back to the College for the start of another exciting term. I hope you all enjoyed a joyful Easter and a refreshing holiday break. It was wonderful to see students return last week with such enthusiasm and energy, ready to embrace the many opportunities that lie ahead.

    Parent Teacher Interviews

We were very pleased to see so many parents and caregivers attend the Parent Teacher Interviews with their children on Monday of last week.

Parent Teacher interviews are a valuable opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school in support of each child’s learning and wellbeing. These conversations provide time for parents and teachers to share insights, celebrate progress, and discuss how students are developing both academically and socially. They also allow parents and teachers to work together to set clear, achievable goals and explore practical ways learning can be reinforced at school and at home.

We strongly encourage conversations of this type to be happening regularly between home and school and for parents to consistently access SEQTA to monitor the progress of their children and to support them with any upcoming tasks, assessments or activities.

When families and teachers collaborate, students benefit from a consistent, aligned approach that helps them feel confident, engaged, and well supported throughout their learning journey. To this end, we warmly welcome all families to attend our next parent workshop scheduled for Thursday 21 May in the College Theatre. Entitled “Under Your Influence”, this 60-minute seminar provides parents practical guidance to support their teenagers through adolescence. Led by guest speaker and author Jade Lewis, the session equips parents with evidence-based strategies, real life insights and confidence to navigate today’s social, emotional and digital challenges. Full details for this free event are available here.

    ASPIRE Homework Club

We continue to encourage students to take an active role in their own learning and to engage purposefully with the wide range of pathways and support structures available at the College. The start of a new term is an ideal opportunity for students to reflect on their progress, identify areas for growth, and set achievable goals for the weeks ahead.

In support of this, students and families are reminded of our reimagined ASPIRE Homework Club, an after?school academic support initiative designed to help students establish effective study routines, build confidence, and access targeted assistance across a range of subject areas.

ASPIRE provides a calm, structured, and well?supervised environment where students can complete homework, receive support with assessments, revisit key concepts, and consolidate core skills. The program is intentionally flexible, welcoming students who attend regularly as well as those who require additional support during peak assessment periods. Available to students in Years 7 to 12, ASPIRE offers small?group support, and guidance from experienced staff and recent graduates, all aimed at helping students feel confident and capable in their academic work. Further details about ASPIRE are available here.

    ANZAC Day Commemoration Ceremony

On Friday, our College community gathered to pause and reflect as we honoured all Australians who have served, and who continue to serve, in conflicts around the world. Our ANZAC Day Commemoration Ceremony provided a meaningful opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices made and the enduring impact of war.

We prayed for peace in our world, mindful of the profound loss and suffering caused by conflict. In reflecting on the legacy of the ANZACs, we were reminded of the values they lived by service, courage, and respect and were called to uphold these through standing against injustice, showing compassion, and working for peace in our daily lives.

In keeping with the spirit of 糖心Vlog and the Easter season, we also gathered in hope and gratitude as we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus and the message of new life and peace it brings. We remember with respect the courage and commitment of those who served to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

As we honour their legacy, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to value peace, show gratitude, and continue to build a community grounded in compassion, respect, and harmony.

We were thrilled to have three generations of the Collin’s family participate in the Ceremony, together laying a wreath as a mark of respect and remembrance. Year 12 student William Collins was joined by his father Mr Peter Collins and his Grandfather Mr Leigh Collins, both of whom have had extensive careers in the Australian Defence Force. We thank them for their contribution to this special ceremony.

    Upcoming Events

We wish the cast and crew of Shrek the Musical all of the best for their upcoming performance season with the Opening Night scheduled for this Thursday. The students and staff have dedicated many months of tireless efforts to prepare this very special show, and we are very much looking forward to their performances.

Other key upcoming events are as follows:

    • Monday 4 May – Year 6 camp departs

    • Friday 8 May – Mothers’ Day Breakfast from 7.45am, followed by Year 7 Parent Connect opportunity

    • Monday 11 May - Careers Week

Best wishes and every blessing

  • As we prepare for the cooler months, families are reminded that Term 2 marks the transition to the full Winter Uniform for all students.

A two?week transition period from Summer to Winter Uniform has been approved:

    • Wednesday 22 April – Friday 1 May:
Students may wear either the full Summer or the full Winter Uniform.
Please ensure students are wearing one complete uniform during this time, with no mixing of Summer and Winter items.

    • From Monday 4 May (Term 2, Week 3):
All students are expected to be in the full Winter Uniform.

    Jumpers & Track Pants

The Uniform Shop has now restocked all track pants and jumpers. Please note that all sizes are available except Size 18.

  • As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship and in partnership with the Friends of Corpus, we encourage families to participate in our Uniform Recycling Program. Gently used uniforms can be donated to support sustainability and help other families in our community. Information is detailed below.

Let’s work together to reduce waste and support one another. Thank you for being part of this initiative.

  • We are pleased to share an update on the capital development in our Junior School, with works now well underway and progressing as planned.

Since site possession in January, early demolition, site establishment and temporary pathways have been completed to support safe movement across campus while construction continues.

As part of these early works, the Junior School time capsule has been carefully retrieved and securely stored for safekeeping, preserving an important piece of our College history for the future.

During the holidays, activity on site gradually increased as structural works and inground services commenced.

Detailed planning is also continuing across mechanical, electrical and landscape elements to ensure the new facilities are contemporary, functional and well suited to the learning needs of our youngest students.

We recognise that families may have questions when construction is underway and would like to reassure parents that student safety and learning remain our highest priorities throughout the project.

All works are carefully staged and construction zones are clearly separated from student areas. Classrooms continue to operate as normal and there are no changes to Junior School routines, timetables or learning programs as a result of these works.

Where activities may be noisy or have the potential to impact nearby areas, timing is planned thoughtfully to minimise disruption to teaching and learning. The College works closely with the project team to manage these periods effectively and any short term impacts will be communicated to families in advance where required.

This Junior School development represents a significant investment in high quality learning environments that support curiosity, creativity and connection.

Practical completion is planned for September/October 2026 and we look forward to sharing further updates as this exciting project continues to take shape.

We thank our families for their continued trust and support as we create spaces that will serve our Junior School community now and into the future.

If you would like to submit a question,

  • 糖心Vlog has been honoured to be selected as a host site for the Migrant Jubilee Cross, a national Catholic symbol created for the Jubilee Year 2025.

As part of a year?long pilgrimage across Australia, the Cross is visiting dioceses, parishes and Catholic schools to honour the faith, courage and contributions of migrant and refugee communities. Its journey reflects the many stories of hope and resilience that continue to shape the Catholic Church.

To mark its visit, students and staff from Years 4–12 will gather for a Welcoming Liturgy, bringing our community together in prayer and reflection.

The Migrant Jubilee Cross is a visible sign of the Church’s gratitude for the witness of migrant and refugee families who have carried their faith across borders and generations. It speaks to themes of journey, hope, belonging and compassion, reminding us that migration has long been part of the Christian story.

Within our own College community, many families have rich and diverse migration stories. This liturgy provides a meaningful opportunity to:

    • honour the journeys and sacrifices of those who have come before us

    • celebrate the cultural and spiritual diversity that shapes 糖心Vlog

    • reflect on our shared call to welcome, accompany and stand in solidarity with others

  • The College extends its sincere thanks to the Brentwood Booragoon Junior Football Club for their continued support of our extensive co-curricular program. We are grateful for their generosity in sharing their time and expertise to once again deliver a highly successful AFL clinic for our students. This partnership remains one of the most popular offerings at the College, giving students the opportunity to build new skills, grow in confidence and, most importantly, stay active while enjoying a fun and supportive environment.

  • 糖心Vlog is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Anastacia Kirby (Year 11), who has been named a State Finalist in the 2026 Lions Youth of the Year Competition.

Anastacia recently competed in the District Final held in Duncraig on Saturday 28 March, where she delivered an impressive performance in the public speaking component, competing against strong representatives from schools including Hale and Iona. Her poise, clarity and confidence saw her selected to progress to the State Final, earning her a place in the State Final, to be held in Fremantle on Sunday 3 May. From there, successful candidates may progress to the National Final.

This achievement is especially significant given Anastacia’s longstanding commitment to the Public Speaking program at 糖心Vlog. Her dedication and leadership were recognised this year through her appointment as Public Speaking Captain, a role in which she continues to model excellence and encourage others.

Anastacia was joined in the competition by Charlotte Dempsey (Year 11), who also progressed to the District Final and impressed adjudicators with her professionalism and skill. In addition, Jeffrey Sackey competed at district level, while Audrey Budiono and Helena Han represented the College in the heats. Each student competed with Courage, Commitment and Compassion, representing 糖心Vlog with pride.

We congratulate Anastacia on this exceptional milestone and commend all students involved for their dedication to personal growth, leadership and public speaking excellence. We wish Anastacia every success as she prepares to compete at the State Final.

  • Congratulations to Jordan on an outstanding performance at the Junior State Swimming Championships, representing Multi Class swimming for the first time at state level.

Across two days of competition, Jordan delivered an exceptional series of results, recording personal bests in every event and showing great determination and composure on the state stage.

    On Day 1, Jordan achieved:

    • Silver medal in the 50m Freestyle Multiclass, with a one?second personal best on his entry time

    • Silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke Multiclass, with an impressive four?second personal best

Jordan continued his strong form on Day 2, producing another remarkable performance:

    • Gold medal in the 50m Backstroke Multiclass, with a personal best

    • Gold medal in the 50m Butterfly Multiclass, with a personal best of more than four seconds

Jordan’s results across the championships reflect his hard work, commitment and resilience, as well as his ability to rise to the challenge at the highest level of competition.

We are incredibly proud of Jordan’s achievements and congratulate him on representing himself and the College with distinction.

  • 糖心Vlog is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Seb McGuiggan and Amelia McIvor, who recently competed against the country’s very best in the 2026 Swimming Australia Age Championships on the Gold Coast in April. Taking on the nation’s top swimmers, both students demonstrated exceptional commitment, resilience, and talent on the national stage.

Making her debut at just 13 years of age, Amelia embraced the challenge of her first national championships with determination. She competed in two demanding events—the 400m Individual Medley and the 200m Breaststroke—delivering a strong performance against elite competition. As the premier event on the age-group calendar, the championships provided Amelia with valuable national-level racing experience, along with important lessons and clear opportunities for growth as she looks ahead to future national-level training pathways.

For Seb, this marked his second appearance at the national championships, and he delivered an impressive campaign across four events this year: 50m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke, and 100m Butterfly. Seb achieved a standout result in the 50m Butterfly, qualifying in the top 20 and progressing to the finals, where he recorded an excellent time of 25.61 seconds. His performance has secured him qualifying times for the upcoming Commonwealth Games Trials in both the 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke—an outstanding achievement at this level. Seb’s continued progress reflects the experience and confidence gained from competing at the highest level, and he now looks ahead with excitement to racing against Australia’s best at the trials in Sydney, this June.

These achievements are a testament to the dedication and hard work of both swimmers, and the College community looks forward to following their continued success in the pool.

We’d Love to Celebrate Your Child’s Achievements

At 糖心Vlog, we’re proud of the many talents and passions our students pursue beyond the classroom. Whether it’s a sporting triumph, a creative milestone, or a personal best in a beloved hobby, we’d love to share and celebrate these moments with our College community.

If your child has recently achieved something special, please send us:

  1. A photo of your child engaged in their activity (where possible, without other people in the image)

  2. A short write-up of their achievement

  3. Their year level and House

We’ll feature these stories in our College e-newsletter to inspire and celebrate the diverse gifts of our students.

ASPIRE is the College’s after?school academic support program, designed to help students develop strong learning habits, build confidence and receive timely guidance across a range of subjects.

ASPIRE provides a calm, structured and supervised environment where students can complete homework, seek help with assessments, clarify concepts and strengthen study skills, either regularly or during busy assessment periods.

Support is available for students across Years 7 to 12, with subject?specific assistance, small?group guidance and access to experienced staff and recent graduates.

Welcoming Back Our ASPIRE Homework Tutors

We are pleased to share that three outstanding recent graduates from the Class of 2025 have returned to the College to support students attending ASPIRE in the Senior School Library on two afternoons per week.

Many students will remember Isaac Wong, Michael Robless and Justin Whiting from the Opening Assembly earlier this year, where the College celebrated the exceptional academic achievements of our top graduates.

All three are now continuing their studies at Curtin University:

  • Isaac Wong – Bachelor of Actuarial Science

  • Michael Robless – Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance), with plans for postgraduate study

  • Justin Whiting – Bachelor of Advanced Science (Physics)

Availability and areas of support

Monday afternoons (3.30–5.00pm)
Isaac and Justin support students in:
? Mathematics Specialist, Methods and Applications
? Physics and Chemistry
? General Mathematics and Science (Years 7–10)

Thursday afternoons (3.30–5.00pm)
Isaac and Michael assist with:
? English ATAR and Literature ATAR
? Accounting and Finance ATAR
? Mathematics
? Religion and Life
? General academic support for Years 7–12

This support is offered in addition to the teachers already rostered on to ASPIRE throughout the week.

How ASPIRE support works

ASPIRE is designed to support all students who attend. Tutors work flexibly throughout each session, assisting multiple students by:

  • reviewing work and assessment feedback

  • clarifying concepts

  • supporting task planning and organisation

  • offering targeted guidance and study strategies

While students are welcome to attend regularly, tutors are not able to offer exclusive, hour?long bookings or dedicate an entire session to one student. This approach ensures equitable access and meaningful support for everyone present.

A familiar program with a broader focus

Students who previously attended Homework Club will recognise the routines, expectations and supportive environment. ASPIRE continues to offer a calm and structured space that suits students who:

  • benefit from completing homework before heading home

  • prefer a quiet, supervised learning environment

  • need support starting tasks or managing workload

  • feel more confident asking questions in a small?group setting

Students may attend regularly or during busy assessment periods as needed.

Supporting strong learning habits

Establishing consistent study routines plays an important role in both academic success and student wellbeing. ASPIRE provides students with the time, structure and encouragement to stay organised, seek help when needed and approach learning with confidence.

We are grateful to Isaac, Michael and Justin for generously giving back to the College community, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on our students throughout the year.

Term 1 2026

Welcome to Week 8

  • As we draw toward the end of a busy and fulfilling Term 1 at Corpus Christi, we celebrate the excellent contribution and involvement of our students, families and staff to collectively create such a vibrant learning community.

Since the last edition of eNews, a lot has happened at the College. We have celebrated Harmony Week which allowed us to recognise our wonderfully rich and diverse culture and to reflect on what it truly means to belong. This message connects beautifully to our identity as the Corpus Christi – that is, one body, one community, made up of many special and unique parts, each with a special role to play. Each part is different, each part is necessary, and each part contributes to the wellbeing of the whole community.

We have welcomed Catholic System Leaders from across Australia to a workshop at the school to explore how we are innovating and accessing technologies to support student learning. The group, from Catholic Networks Australia, spent the morning at the College on Monday last week, hearing of the connectedness of Corpus Christi to Catholic Education WA and to other schools and to hear firsthand from staff and students the impact ICT has on their education and wellbeing. Congratulations to our staff and student panel for their open and honest contribution to this meaningful and thought-provoking discussion.

Students from Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 completed their NAPLAN assessments over the past fortnight. We acknowledge these students for the industrious way that they approached these assessments and for giving of their best. These are one set of standardised tests that provide a point time assessment of student performance. Of course, we know that we have a myriad of additional learning opportunities for students that, when combined, highlight their overall progress and allow continued rich engagement. Considering assessments as an opportunityfor learning and aslearning rather than justof learning, supports the ongoing educational development of students. It allows them to see assessment as just another chance to express what they have learned and to explore gaps and opportunities for future growth.

On Monday this week students competed in our annual Inter-House Dance Performance. This unique and very special event is designed and run by students with the support of our College staff. Student groups from each of the Houses choreographed and performed their own outstanding dance routines to a very appreciative sold-out audience. This fun-filled and inclusive event promotes a sense of belonging, joy and positive school culture. Well done to all involved and congratulations on your courage and commitment in bringing your dance vision to reality. Special acknowledgement to our amazing senior students for their excellent leadership to create such a wonderful sense of spirit and collegiality amongst the House groups. Thank you also to Mr David Mueller and the House Community Coordinators for their excellent support of the students.

Our bustling term continues with a series of key events scheduled in the lead up to the conclusion of the term next week. We again encourage students to immerse themselves fully, whether representing their House at the upcoming Cross Country Carnival or their College at the Associated Catholic College’s Swimming Carnival or gathering as a whole school community to celebrate our Easter Liturgy.

This time of the term provides an excellent opportunity for students to accelerate to the break, ensuring that all tasks are completed and previously set goals achieved so they can pause, reflect and reset over the holiday break. In students becoming agents of their own learning, our aim for them is to make productive and positive decisions around their own education. This of course extends into the start of next term where students act on revised goals to ensure their continued growth. Success in any given pathway is always underpinned by high levels of effort and application.

I would also like to again encourage families to continue to engage with the College to support their child’s learning. We have recently released dates for upcoming scheduled parent student teacher interviews, facilitating meetings directly with College staff. These conversations help support the important partnership between home and school to assist in holistic growth of students. Year 11 and 12 interview links have been sent to families, with Kindergarten to Year 10 to be shared early next week.

We also have some free tickets remaining for this week’s special presentation to parents and caregivers by Scheduled for Thursday 26 March commencing at 6.30pm, Daniel will be talking about the challenges faced by our young people today and providing support tools and strategies. Daniel will also be working with our students on Friday.

The end of the term this year also signifies the conclusion of Lent as we progress toward the celebration of Easter. This is a very special time in the life of the Church as we recognise the death and resurrection of Jesus. The joy of the Resurrection renews our hearts, strengthens our faith, brings light where there is darkness and peace where there is fear. Pope Leo reminds us at this time to listen to God through Scripture and prayer; to listen to people who are hurting; and to listen honestly to what is happening in our own hearts. We wish all of our Corpus community a hope filled and joyous Easter.

Best wishes for the holiday break ahead. I hope that families enjoy this special time together. We look forward to the return of students on Wednesday 22 April to commence Term 2.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Principal

  • Some of our super Year 5 students are organising a bake sale which will be on Thursday 26th March at Recess.  The students will be making a variety of baked goods for sale at $2.00 per item with all proceeds going to Project Compassion

  • A Coffee van will be available on Tuesday mornings outside the OSH Club near the Junior School Car Park.

  • Corpus proudly hit the pool on Tuesday 10 March for the CAPSS Swimming Carnival, delivering an exceptional performance and finishing 2nd overall after a day of fast, fiercely competitive racing.

Our Junior swimmers showed incredible team spirit, determination and sportsmanship from the opening race to the final relay. The energy on pool deck was electric filled with cheers, encouragement, and genuine celebration of both team and individual achievements embodied the true spirit of school sport.

    A huge congratulations to:
    ? Thomas G – Year 4 Boys Age Champion
    ? Hudson L – Year 5 Boys Runner-Up

With many events decided by the closest of margins, the competition remained tight right to the end. Our swimmers gave everything in the crucial relay races, showing resilience, passion and commitment that kept Corpus Christi firmly in the fight for the top spot.

Finishing 2nd overall is an amazing achievement and a testament to the squad’s hard work, preparation and strong team culture.

Congratulations to every swimmer who represented the College so proudly. Your effort, enthusiasm and teamwork made the entire community proud

  • This Lent, our school community is supporting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion. It is an opportunity to live out our faith through compassion and generosity.

Project Compassion raises funds to support vulnerable communities around the world, providing access to essentials like clean water, education, and healthcare. During Lent, we are all encouraged us to be more giving and more aware of the needs of others.

If each child in the College donated $10 each, we could exceed our target and raise $18,000 for the vulnerable people in our world. All donations make a difference! Big or small, we are grateful.

Donations can be made online, or in cash directly to the student’s homeroom teacher.

  • On 2 May, Neve Doran will join her parents in completing a 35 km Walk for Women’s Cancer.

This year’s event is especially meaningful for Neve and her family. In 2025 Neve lost her much?loved Aunty Ammy after a brave fight with cancer. Ammy was a significant and cherished presence in Neve’s life.

Last year Ammy encouraged Neve to volunteer at the same event to complete hours for her Duke of Edinburgh program. It was a special experience for them and the family made a promise to return this year in honour of Ammy.

By sharing her story Neve hopes to raise awareness of this important cause and support vital cancer research.

If you would like to support Neve’s walk or learn more you can

The College is proud of Neve’s compassion and her commitment to helping others.

  • The College is proud to celebrate the achievements of Ryan Watts (Xa11), who recently competed in an Exhibition match alongside international water polo greats Aaron Younger, a three?time Olympian and Australian national player, and Felippe Perrone, a five?time Olympian and Spanish national player. The match was played against visiting Hungarian team Fehérvár Vizilabda SE, who were a dynamic presence throughout their two?week tour, securing victories in both the Exhibition game and their match against the Fremantle Mariners. Despite the competitive intensity, strong friendships were formed, and the Melville Water Polo Club is hopeful to arrange a future tour to Hungary.

In more exciting news, Ryan’s U18 Junior State League team has won the Grand Final, defeating UWA White 10 to 6 and bringing home the trophy to Melville Water Polo Club. As part of the tour festivities, Ryan also competed in a special Exhibition match featuring several elite athletes, including Aaron Younger on the right and Felippe Perrone on the left, against Fehérvár Vizilabda SE, providing him with valuable experience playing alongside some of the best in the sport.

With the State League title secured, Ryan now turns his focus to the upcoming Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in Brisbane, which will be held over the April school holidays.

The College congratulates Ryan on these outstanding achievements and wishes him every success in his upcoming national competition.

  • Congratulations to Year 4 teacher Miss Courtney Hill.

Recently Courtney and her dance team competed at WSLU (West State Line Up) which is a state competition where teams from across WA take part in friendly competition.

Her team performed in Section 4G All Ages Set Dance Crew with their routine “Heel Toe Rodeo” to “Cowboy Up” by Kaylee Bell and they won 1st place.

The achievement was even more special because many members of the team had never competed before which made the result incredibly exciting.

A huge congratulations to Courtney and her crew on this fantastic achievement!

Celebrating Father’s Day in Italy at 糖心VlogAlexandra CarcioneMon, 23 Mar 2026 04:21:53 +0000/news-blog/2026/fathers-day57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:69c096a2eb91792d6976e800Once again this year, on 19 March, our College had the privilege of celebrating Saint Joseph’s Day, a significant feast in the Catholic tradition and the day on which Father’s Day is observed in Italy. Inspired by the example of Saint Joseph, a figure of humility, care and quiet strength,  our Italian students marked the occasion in ways that were both meaningful and joyful.

Our Year 7 students were involved in creating beautiful cards for their fathers, or for the special father figures in their lives. It was a thoughtful activity that encouraged students to reflect on gratitude, love and the important role these figures play within their families.

Our Year 11 and 12 students celebrated the occasion in a particularly special way by inviting their fathers to a warm breakfast gathering featuring coffee and traditional zeppole di San Giuseppe,  delicious custard-filled pastries closely associated with this feast in Italy.

The breakfast was made even more meaningful thanks to one of our students, Sienna, who beautifully explained, first in Italian and then in English, the significance of this day and the tradition behind it. Her contribution added an authentic and educational touch to the celebration, bringing Italian language and culture to life in a real and memorable way.

The atmosphere was truly lovely, with music, conversation and a genuine sense of connection throughout the morning. What made the occasion even more special was the presence of a student, Antonia,  who graduated last year,  a beautiful example of the way the Corpus Christi community extends well beyond graduation. It was a touching reminder that the sense of belonging fostered at the College continues long after students leave our classrooms.

A heartfelt thank you to all those who participated and helped make the morning so special. To those who were unable to attend, we extend our warmest wishes for a very happy Father’s Day.

Ingredients

Makes 4 zeppole

Choux pastry

  • 200 g water

  • 125 g plain flour

  • 80 g butter

  • 165 g eggs (about 3 medium eggs)

  • 1 pinch of salt

Custard filling

  • 200 g full cream milk

  • 50 g fresh cream

  • 70 g sugar

  • 2 egg yolks

  • 20 g cornflour

  • zest of 1 lemon

To decorate

  • 4 sour cherries in syrup

  • icing sugar, as needed

Method

  1. Heat the milk, cream and lemon zest until just below boiling point. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the sugar, add the cornflour, then slowly pour in the hot liquid. Return to the heat and cook, stirring continuously, until the custard is smooth and thick. Cover with cling film touching the surface and leave to cool.

  2. Place the water, butter and salt in a saucepan and bring almost to the boil. Remove from the heat, add all the flour at once and stir vigorously. Return to the heat and continue stirring until the mixture forms a smooth ball and comes away from the sides of the pan. Leave to cool slightly.

  3. Add the eggs a little at a time, mixing well after each addition, until the mixture is smooth and thick.

  4. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a No. 10 or No. 12 star nozzle. Pipe 4 zeppole, each about 8 cm in diameter, onto a baking tray lined with baking paper.

  5. Bake in a preheated fan-forced oven at 170°C for 45 minutes, then continue baking for a further 15 minutes with the oven door slightly open. Leave to cool completely.

  6. Whisk the custard briefly, then transfer it to a piping bag fitted with a small nozzle. Make a small hole in the base or side of each zeppola and gently fill with custard. Finish with a small swirl of custard on top, a sour cherry in syrup in the centre, and a dusting of icing sugar.

Enjoy!

Italiano

Ingredienti

Per 4 zeppole

Pasta choux

  • 200 g di acqua

  • 125 g di farina 00

  • 80 g di burro

  • 165 g di uova (circa 3 uova medie)

  • 1 pizzico di sale

Crema pasticcera

  • 200 g di latte intero

  • 50 g di panna fresca liquida

  • 70 g di zucchero

  • 2 tuorli

  • 20 g di amido di mais

  • scorza di 1 limone

Per decorare

  • 4 amarene sciroppate

  • zucchero a velo q.b.

Procedimento

Buon Appetito!

Term 1 2026

Welcome to Week 6

  • Our K-12 Corpus Christi House structure connects our students across the College, building belonging and facilitating a sense of connectedness that serves to enhance their overall holistic learning experience at the College.

The College Houses provide strong pastoral care by giving every student a consistent network of guidance and support throughout their schooling journey. With staff and peers who know them well, students feel safe, valued, and connected, creating the foundation for positive wellbeing and growth.

The House system also builds a strong sense of community and identity. Students become part of something bigger than their individual year level, developing pride in their House and forming positive relationships that span across different ages and stages. This sense of belonging encourages unity, teamwork, and effective communication amongst the students.

Student life is enriched through a wide range of faith?based, cultural, service and sporting activities coordinated within the House structure. These shared experiences deepen school spirit and help students discover new interests and strengths. They also provide the opportunity for students to raise funds for Catholic charities and link service and social justice, allowing them to live out their faith in action and contribute to the needs of others.

There have been multiple occasions since the beginning of the year that have highlighted the wonderfully rich sense of community and spirit within our College Houses.

The most recent of these was our Pre?Primary Assembly last week where students were allocated to their House, a special connection that will stay with them throughout the next thirteen years of their Corpus journey. It was fantastic to see so many parents and families present to celebrate this joyful and significant moment as our House Community Coordinators welcomed their newest members. It was also wonderful to witness the pride with which our Year 12 and Year 6 leaders represented their Houses and the warm, thoughtful way they greeted the Pre?Primary students.

Our Year 7 students who are new to the school, meanwhile, were allocated to their Houses as part of their Orientation Day at the end of last year, allowing them to effectively settle into the rhythms and routines of Senior School. Supported strongly by their Homeroom Teacher, students develop lasting connection with their peers, learn about their House Patrons and are made to feel safe and cared for. We know when students feel well, then learning is enhanced. Congratulations to our Year 7 students for the excellent way they have commenced the year and for the energy and vibrancy they have brought to our community.

I know that I have previously written of very successful House Swimming Carnivals, however in again referencing these successful events, in combination to the above, we can see a real and impactful pastoral system that adds richness and depth to our community at Corpus Christi. We have been very pleased to see students from across the College investing wholeheartedly into House related events and activities, including our newly developed Friday Extended Homeroom House program.

In recognising the positive impact our Houses have at the school, it is appropriate to pause and reflect on our House Patrons who provide inspiration through their faith and actions:

    Chisholm House

Chisholm House (dark blue) honours Caroline Chisholm, who worked to improve the lives of immigrants in Australia, helping many find safe housing and employment.

    De Vialar House

De Vialar House (yellow) is inspired by St Emilie de Vialar, remembered for her lifelong commitment to helping the poor, the sick, prisoners, and children in need.

    MacKillop House

MacKillop House (sky blue) celebrates St Mary MacKillop, who founded the Sisters of St Joseph and dedicated her life to supporting disadvantaged children through education and care.

    Merici House

Merici House (red) honours St Angela Merici, a pioneer in girls’ education and a compassionate advocate for those facing hardship, including the sick and disabled.

    Pallotti House

Pallotti House (silver) is named after St Vincent Pallotti, who encouraged all people to live out their faith through service and active involvement in their communities.

    Romero House

Romero House (purple) recognises Archbishop Oscar Romero, admired for speaking out for justice, defending the poor, and reminding the world that faith and justice must work together.

    Salvado House

Salvado House (green) honours Bishop Rosendo Salvado, known for his work with First Nations communities and his perseverance in building and sustaining the New Norcia mission.

    Xavier House

Xavier House (black) celebrates St Francis Xavier, a dedicated missionary whose work across many countries helped spread the Gospel and inspire spiritual reflection.

Further information about our House System is available here.

  • We are very much looking forward to our first Friends of Corpus (FOC) workshop scheduled for this Wednesday (11 March) in our newly refurbished James Nestor building commencing at 6.30pm.

Thank you to the FOC Executive Team for their input into the creation of an agenda on the Corpus Learning Journey. There will be a range of differentiated workshops for parents and caregivers, providing engagement opportunities across the year levels. Delivered by College staff, the topics include Empowering Young Mathematicians, Thinking Like a Mathematician, Staying Connected – A SEQTA Guide, Healthy Technology Habits, and AI at Home. Full details of the workshops on offer are available here.

We know the positive impact that parent engagement and the development of a common language between home and school has on student learning, so we hope to see you on Wednesday evening.

Finally, in keeping with the above, we are thrilled to again promote guest speaker Daniel Principe’s presentation for parents and caregivers on Thursday 26 March.

He will be speaking about the challenges faced by our young people today and providing support tools and strategies. I know that free tickets are being booked fast, so I would encourage school families, and also those across other school communities, to RSVP via this link here as soon as possible. Events of this type are aimed at providing a consistency of message and learning to promote a continuity of language and ideals between home and school, ultimately leading to improved holistic outcomes for our students.

Best wishes and every blessing

  • Dear Parents and Guardians,

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller

This quote reminds us that the strength of our Junior School community lies in the many moments we share together. Celebrating achievements, supporting one another and encouraging our students to grow with confidence.

It has been another joyful and busy week across the Junior School, with many moments of celebration and learning taking place.

Last week we held our Years 3–6 Swimming Carnival, and it was wonderful to see our students demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, perseverance and House spirit throughout the day. Events like these are always a highlight of the Junior School calendar and provide a wonderful opportunity for students to support one another and celebrate participation and effort.

Congratulations to all students who competed, and we wish our selected interschool swimming team the very best as they represent 糖心Vlog at the Interschool Carnival this Tuesday.

On Friday morning, we also gathered for a very special milestone as our Pre-Primary students participated in their House Allocation Assembly. This celebration marked the beginning of their official journey within our College House system. It was a beautiful moment for our youngest students as they discovered their House and were welcomed into their new House communities. Our House system plays an important role in fostering connection and belonging across the College, and we look forward to watching our Pre-Primary students grow within their Houses in the years ahead.

As the term progresses, we would also like to take this opportunity to remind families about our Junior School Drive-Thru and Carpark Guidelines. These procedures are in place to ensure the safety of all students and families during what is a very busy time of the day. We kindly ask that families share these guidelines with anyone who may collect their child, including grandparents, carers or au pairs, so they are aware of the correct procedures and parking locations. Click here to access the full Junior School Carpark Etiquette Guidelines.

A helpful reminder that Kindergarten students finish their day at 2:55pm, and we ask that they are collected during this time to assist with parking availability and allow traffic to move smoothly before the main Junior School dismissal period. The drive-through pick-up areas for Years 1–6 open after the end-of-day bell at 3:05pm.

Finally, we wish our Year 3 and Year 5 students all the very best as they begin their NAPLAN assessments this week. Our students have been working diligently in their learning, and we are confident they will approach the assessments with calm, confidence and a willingness to simply do their best.

Thank you for the many ways you continue to support our Junior School community. As we continue our journey through the season of Lent, we encourage our students and families to take moments to reflect on how we can show kindness, generosity and care for others in our daily lives.

Lent is a time to open our hearts to those most in need.” — Pope Francis

    Warm regards

    Katya Anderson

  • Our Languagues Team have prepared a new blog to share with the Corpus community.

Say it like a local: Good luck in Italian & French

Idioms are those colourful expressions that make a language feel alive. They can sound funny word-for-word, but native speakers use them every day. And with so many assessments, performances and sporting events happening at the moment, it’s the perfect time to learn a couple of simple expressions to wish someone good luck. Here are two easy options (one Italian and one French) that students can try at home straight away.

  • Free Parent & Community Workshop – Registrations Essential

Young people today are growing up in a distracted, digital world. From hyper-sexualised content to toxic influencers, online forces shape popular culture and can influence how young people see themselves and treat others. Amid these challenges, we know that youth are capable of living courageously and leading lives of empathy, respect and kindness but this shift doesn’t happen by chance.

Join us for an engaging and thought-provoking session with Daniel Principe, a passionate advocate for youth wellbeing. In his parent and community presentations, Daniel gently addresses the “elephants in the room” and explores what really matters to young people. Together, we’ll unpack the messages they receive about consent, porn culture, stereotypes, relationships and sexuality, and learn how to guide them toward healthy, respectful choices.

Grounded in the latest research, Daniel provides practical tools to help caregivers and community leaders:

    • Analyse and challenge the culture influencing young people

    • Instill the importance of consent and respectful relationships

    • Foster empathy and resilience in a digital age

  • Over the weekend, Year 4 student Sofia showcased her talent at the Hyde Park Festival’s Talent in the Park competition. Performing alongside ten other talented contestants in the all?ages category, Sofia delivered an outstanding performance that earned her third place and a $100 prize.

Adding to the excitement, Sofia performed in front of her idol, 糖心Vlog alumna and rising artist Gisella Colletti. This added pressure only fuelled her enthusiasm, and she rose to the occasion.

On Monday, she returned to the festival to close the event with her own 30?minute set on the Lotterywest Main Stage. This was an incredible achievement for an eight?year?old performer. A highlight of the weekend was seeing her name featured on the festival program and signage.

    Congratulations, Sofia!

Say it like a local: Good luck in Italian & FrenchBrittney De GouveiaMon, 09 Mar 2026 05:20:14 +0000/news-blog/2026/good-luck57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:69aa73ea15bf0a1bca8627d7Idioms are those colourful expressions that make a language feel alive. They can sound funny word-for-word, but native speakers use them every day. And with so many assessments, performances and sporting events happening at the moment, it’s the perfect time to learn a couple of simple expressions to wish someone good luck. Here are two easy options (one Italian and one French) that students can try at home straight away.

Italian

In bocca al lupo!
Literal: “In the wolf’s mouth.” ?
Meaning: “Good luck!”
Reply: Crepi! (literally “may the wolf die” — used like “thanks / good luck to you too”)
or simply: Grazie!

Mini dialogue:
A: “I’ve got an assessment on Monday.”
B: “In bocca al lupo!”
A: “Crepi! / Grazie!”

French

Je croise les doigts !
Literal: “I cross my fingers.” ?
Meaning: “Fingers crossed / Good luck!”
Reply: Merci ! or Merci, moi aussi !

Mini dialogue:
A: “I hope I make the team.”
B: “Je croise les doigts !”
A: “Merci ! / Merci, moi aussi !”

Did you know?

Many idioms reflect culture and traditions — and learning them helps students sound more natural, not just “correct”. Even using one small expression confidently can make a big difference in speaking.

You can also keep it simple with these everyday alternatives:
?? Buona fortuna! / Auguri!
?? Bonne chance !

Family Challenge / Sfida in famiglia / Défi de famille

Pick one expression and use it at home this week (before sport, homework, an assessment, or a big day  and teach someone else the correct reply!

Alla prossima — see you next time — à bient?t !

Term 1 2026

Welcome to Week 4

  • In recognising the start of Lent and the commencement of the new school year, families, friends, staff and students from across our K-12 College community gathered on the Senior School Oval last week to celebrate our Ash Wednesday Community Mass.

This special Ash Wednesday Mass provided the opportunity for us to reflect as a whole school community on the true meaning of Lent - a time where we pause to remember our humanity and our capacity for renewal. The ashes we receive are a reminder that while our lives are fragile, they are also filled with possibility if we place of faith in God.

Lent provides us time to reflect, to simplify, and to refocus on what matters most. During this time, we seek to deepen our relationship with God through prayer and liturgy, we simplify our lives through the fasting of habits or attachments that distract us, and we look outward through almsgiving to care for those in need. These actions help us to realign our hearts with God and focus on what truly matters.

Lent also promotes a journey of hope where God continues to encourage us to follow Him to become all that we were created to be. Of course, we take this journey in communion with others, we are not alone, we walk alongside each other in support.

These key Lenten messages were shared with our community during the Mass and also connected to the start of the new school year which in itself is a form of journey. The beginning of the year offers its own kind of fresh start. It’s a moment to think about who we want to become, the choices we want to make, and the habits we hope to build.

We are most grateful to St Thomas More Parish Priest Fr Phong for leading this beautiful celebration. To have Parish, school and families all together in the one place at the one time to celebrate Mass was very special indeed. Thank you to parents and caregivers for supporting us in prioritising the Mass as a significant event on the calendar by ensuring students were present. It was also lovely to see so many families and friends attend the evening.

I would also like to acknowledge the enormous contribution of College staff and students who ministered during the Mass and helped organise this significant event. Special thanks of course must go to Deputy Principal Catholic Identity and Mission, Mr Damian Ramos, for his efforts in bringing this special celebration together.

  • Last week, our Senior School students gave their all as they represented their Houses at the Inter-House Swimming Carnivals at the College’s Jennifer Riley Aquatic Centre. Across two days of rolling carnivals, the pool deck was filled with energy as students took to the water with enthusiasm, determination and plenty of House spirit.

Students embraced a wide range of events, contributing to an atmosphere of camaraderie and healthy competition that helped make the Carnivals such a success.

It was fantastic to see students cheering each other on, celebrating personal achievements and stepping outside their comfort zones to support their House. Their positivity, resilience and willingness to encourage their peers showcased the very best of our College community.

We commend all students for the enthusiastic way they engaged in the Carnivals - their sportsmanship, effort and positivity made this year’s event truly memorable. We also thank our very dedicated College staff for their efforts in ensuring the success of the Carnivals. We look forward to the upcoming Junior School Inter-House Swimming Carnival scheduled for this Thursday at the College. Parents and caregivers are again invited to attend to support their children and add to the exciting atmosphere of the day.

Swimming is certainly alive and well at Corpus. The College continues to build momentum in the pool, supporting student health and wellbeing, along with providing an important pathway for student success and holistic development.

  • Student leadership plays a vital role in shaping a positive and thriving school community. When students are given opportunities to lead, they not only contribute to the culture of the College but also develop valuable skills that will support them well beyond their school years.

Effective student leadership helps our young people learn how to communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and to make responsible decisions. It encourages initiative, resilience, and the confidence to step forward when needed - qualities essential for lifelong learning and future success.

We were therefore thrilled on Monday to formally announce our Year 6 Leaders and present them with their blessed badges. We thank these students for stepping forward to lead and look forward to seeing the positive impact that they will have on our community.

During the assembly, we also presented the College Leaders’ shirts to all our Year 6 students highlighting the important role that all of these students play this year. We know that all students have the capacity to lead in their own way. True leadership is shown through everyday actions such as helping others, setting a positive example, showing kindness, and doing what’s right even when no one is watching. Students lead when they include others, take initiative, offer encouragement, or simply choose to make a situation better.

We know that our Year 6 students will lead with great energy and enthusiasm and wish them well for 2026 in this their final year in the Junior School.

  • As an educational organisation, we prioritise professional learning for staff to ensure we continue providing high?quality growth experiences for students. We celebrate the fact that together - staff, parents and students alike - we are a community of learners who embrace a growth mindset and actively explore pathways for ongoing development.

College staff are therefore looking forward to our Professional Learning Day scheduled for this Friday 27 February where we are focusing on the learning journey and exploring opportunities to design with purpose and plan for impact. We will spend the day researching contemporary pedagogies and reflect on how they can translate to quality learning experiences for students across our K-12 landscape. As advertised, Friday is therefore a Pupil Free Day for students.

  • We are looking forward to a series of special upcoming events and invite families and friends to attend:

  • Over the weekend, Kaden Ogle represented the College at the 2026 WA Athletics State Junior Championships, competing in the Under 14 Boys division.

Kaden achieved exceptional results across all three of his events, placing third in:

    • Javelin – 37.78m

    • Discus – 35.21m

    • Shot Put – 11.71m

Congratulations to Kaden on his impressive performances and dedication to his sport!

  • At the start of last year, twenty three of our Year 9 students registered to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. By the end of the year, eighteen students had successfully completed the requirements and were presented with their Bronze Award. To achieve the Bronze Award, our students completed four sections across the year: Skill, Service and Physical Recreation (13 hours in each area), along with both a Practice Adventurous Journey in Dwellingup and a Qualifying Journey at the Perth Hills Discovery Centre in Mundaring. Students attended weekly Wednesday meetings to prepare for their camps. Preparation included planning food and equipment, tent setup, safe Trangia stove use, navigation, and map reading. A strong emphasis was placed on teamwork, particularly during their 18km hike on the Bibbulmun Track, where pacing and group cohesion were essential to ensure everyone reached the finish line safely. In addition, four students completed their Silver Award: Ella Rheinberger, Chelsea McKay, Aiden Evans and Charlotte Dempsey. Silver participants completed 26 hours in each section and undertook their Qualifying Journey with external provider Simply Trekking. Chelsea hiked 60km over five days on the Cape to Cape Track, while Ella, Aiden and Charlotte completed 60km on the Bibbulmun Track along the Darling Scarp.

  • At the start of January, five students from 糖心Vlog and seven other students from various colleges successfully completed their Adventurous Qualifying Journeys along a section of the Bibbulmun Track in the Southwest.

Gold Award students Patrick Dowsett and Ella Rheinberger began their journey at Parry Beach, carrying full packs with all required equipment and food. Over two days, they covered 35 kilometres, navigating a demanding route that included a canoe crossing of the Irwin Inlet, as well as beaches, soft and steep sand dunes, heathland, and forest terrain.

At Peaceful Bay, Silver Award students Gabrielle Dirk, Eva Perrie, and Charlotte Lee joined the expedition to complete the remaining 74 kilometres. The group travelled from the coastline inland to the Valley of the Giants, experiencing the Tree Top Walk, and stayed at a combination of cabins and caravan parks. On the final day, students hiked over Mt Clare before being collected at Deep River.

Congratulations to all the students on completing your Qualifying Journey.

Term 1 2026

Welcome to Week 2

  • A very warm welcome once again to the start of the 2026 school year at 糖心Vlog. Our students have settled in smoothly, connecting with friends, building new relationships, and engaging positively in their learning. We are looking forward to another fulfilling year at the College as we continue to grow and build on the strong foundations of our K–12 community.

  • Last week we gathered for assembly in the College Gym to celebrate the start of the year and to acknowledge our high performing students from the Graduating Class of 2025.

The common theme of Living our Values was threaded through the assembly as they provide an excellent focus for us all in starting a new school year. While our College Values are frequently spoken about, it can become easy to overlook their significance. Taking moments to pause and reflect on our Values, like at our assembly, helps us reconnect with their meaning and to think about how we can embody them authentically each day.

Our College Values of Commitment, Courage and Compassion draw from over 40 years of combined history across two schools, and underpin the special legacy created by generations of people over this time. In addressing the students at assembly, I reminded them that becoming part of the Corpus community means embracing the responsibility to live out our Values in authentic and meaningful ways.

    1. Commitment

Through Commitment, student actions match their words. They fully embrace what the College stands for and positively contribute to its culture. They ensure that they are always Ready to Learn and step fully into all aspects of life at the College.

By committing to the College, students accept the responsibility of upholding our uniform and presentation expectations, recognising that these standards help shape their character and honour the traditions of our school community. They also demonstrate care for our College environment, acknowledging the remarkable effort so many people invest in making this a special and inspiring place for learning.

    2. Courage

Courage is lived out in the way we stand up for what is right and contribute to a caring and harmonious Corpus community. It calls us to act with integrity, even when faced with outside pressures that may try to pull us away from who we are called to be. We encourage students to choose the right path, not necessarily the easy one, and to step forward when others may step back. Courage is expressed in their willingness to speak up, support others and uphold the standards and values that define our College.

Courage also shapes the way students approach their learning - that is, to step boldly into new challenges, pushing themselves beyond comfort and embracing opportunities for growth. We want our students to courageously seek feedback, respond to it with humility and determination and to set ambitious goals that stretch their capabilities. By continually striving to improve, students show the courage to become the best versions of themselves –

academically, personally, spiritually and as active participants in the Corpus community.

    3. Compassion

Compassion is at the heart of our community. It is shown in the way we treat one another with care, kindness, and respect, and in our willingness to be truly present for others. By looking beyond their own needs and recognising the challenges others may be facing, our students help ensure that every person feels valued, included, and seen. Students soon realise that sometimes it’s the smallest gestures such as checking in, offering a smile, or lending an ear, that make the greatest difference.

We also strengthen our community by compassionately supporting one another’s learning and growth. When students share knowledge, encourage their peers, and learn alongside them, they help create an environment where everyone can flourish. By working together in this spirit of service and collaboration, we continue to build a place where all feel safe, welcomed, and able to contribute their unique gifts.

In living these Values out each day, we strive toward our Vision of being Outstanding for Others. This was the challenge that I put to all students to begin their new school year – that is, to reflect on our three core Values and consider how they will bring them to life this year to grow personally and to positively contribute to the Corpus story and legacy.

We were delighted to recognise a number of past and present students during the assembly who did just this, encapsulating our Vision to attain excellent levels of success in their chosen pathway. They provide a wonderful example of the success that results from fully investing oneself in the life of the school and capturing every growth opportunity available to them.

  • A special thank you to our families for your ongoing support in helping establish routines, encouraging positive habits, and partnering with us to ensure a strong start to the school year. Your involvement makes a tremendous difference.

We also value your terrific assistance in us maintaining high student uniform and presentation standards at the College and ask for your continued support in this regard. Wearing the school uniform well contributes positively to our school culture. Our uniform fosters a strong sense of belonging and unity, helping students to feel connected to their community. By wearing the uniform proudly, students demonstrate respect for themselves, their peers, and the traditions of our College.

We are most grateful too for your positive participation in the suite of different Parent Information Evenings held at the College across the past two weeks. It was pleasing to be able to update families with an array of new initiatives planned for their children, and for parents to meet with their child’s Classroom and Homeroom Teachers. Please continue to reach out to these key staff members should you have any concerns or worries about the educational needs of your children.

We look forward to your continued engagement at the College and working in partnership with you to support the holistic growth of your children.

Best wishes and every blessing

  • Dear Parents and Guardians

Welcome to the 2026 school year. As we step into our second week together, it has been wonderful to see the Junior School settle so positively into new routines and learning spaces. The opening days of a new school year often bring a mix of emotions from excitement, curiosity, and sometimes a need for reassurance. It has been a joy to watch students grow in confidence as the week has unfolded.

As Pope Francis reminds us, "To educate is an act of love, it is to give life." This year, we look forward to walking alongside you and your child as they grow, discover, and shine in all they do. Our Vision and Mission, Outstanding for Others continues to guide our teaching practices at 糖心Vlog. At a Junior School level, this brings focus to our child-centred and dynamic learning environments, ensuring that every student is nurtured, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.

I would also like to extend a warm welcome to all families who are joining 糖心Vlog for the first time this year. We are delighted to have you as part of our community and look forward to building strong partnerships as your child begins their journey with us.

We are equally pleased to welcome the following new staff members to our Junior School team. We are also pleased to share that Miss Taylor MacDonald will continue in her role as the Year 3 Green classroom teacher, and Mrs Raji Kannan will continue supporting students as a Special Needs Education Assistant.

Finally, I would like to warmly welcome Sophie Monteleone, who will be stepping into the role of Head of Community K–6 for Terms 1 to 3. Sophie brings a strong sense of care, connection, and leadership to this role, and we are grateful for the support she will provide to students, staff, and families across the Junior School during this time.

    Communication and Parent Partnership

Over the first two weeks of the school year, we have valued the opportunity to connect with families through our Parent Information Evenings. These evenings are an important starting point in building strong partnerships and ensuring clear, open communication as we begin the year together.

Clear and consistent communication remains a priority at 糖心Vlog. To support this, we use a range of platforms, each with a specific purpose, to help families know where to find information and who to contact. A Communication Flowchart is available for parents to provide clarity and guidance throughout the year.

    • College Calendar – your central point for College-wide events and key dates. All major events and activities are published here.

    • Corpus Connect – our College app, designed to keep families informed and connected with timely updates and important notices.

    • Seesaw – used as a learning journey platform, giving families insight into classroom learning, student progress, and moments of discovery and celebration.

    • SEQTA – our formal communication channel for letters, reports, and the publication of merit award recipients.

We appreciate your partnership in using these platforms as intended, as this helps ensure communication remains clear, timely, and consistent across our community.

    Community Connectors

As we begin the year, we invite families to consider volunteering for the important role of Community (Class) Connector for 2026. This is a one-year commitment that plays a valuable role in fostering connection, communication, and a strong sense of community within each class, in partnership with Friends of Corpus.

If you are interested in nominating yourself or would like to learn more about the role, please click here for further details. We kindly ask all families to complete the Formstack, as it includes permission for your contact details to be shared with your class Community Connector to support communication throughout the year.

    Junior School Drop-off and Pick-Up

As the year gets underway, we would like to take a moment to reinforce our expectations around parking and supervision, which are in place to support the safety and wellbeing of all members of our Junior School community.

During drop-off and pick-up times, we ask families to please follow all car park signage and use designated parking areas only. This helps maintain an orderly traffic flow and ensures everyone’s safety. Further details and map can be found in the Junior School parking information here.

The kiss-and-drop zone is intended for brief drop-off and collection only. Parking in this area causes congestion and creates safety risks, so we kindly ask that vehicles keep moving through this zone. We also remind all drivers to observe speed limits and remain alert at all times within the College grounds.

    Before-School Supervision

    • Supervision commences at 8:15am in the undercover area for all students in year 1 to 6. Prior to this time, students must remain with their parent or caregiver. Families requiring an earlier start are encouraged to use before-school care through Camp Australia. Parents are not permitted to drop students off at the Junior School reception.

    • Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students must remain under parent or guardian supervision until 8:35am.

Once the school day has begun, all gates will be locked. Any late arrivals or early collections must be managed via the Junior Administration Office, including students in Year 5 and 6.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe, calm, and well-managed environment for our students and families.

    Junior Building Development Memo #1

On Friday, families received an update outlining the exciting progress made on the Junior School building works over the holidays, along with details about the next phase of the project. Please click to access this information.

I look forward to the year ahead as we continue to work in partnership to support each child’s learning, wellbeing, and growth. Together, we will embrace new opportunities, navigate challenges with confidence, and celebrate the many moments that shape each child’s journey.

As children’s author Oliver Jeffers reminds us, “We may all be different, but there’s one thing we all have in common — we’re all in this together.” With this in mind, we begin 2026 united in purpose, committed to nurturing kindness, courage, and compassion, and encouraging our students to be truly Outstanding for Others.

    Yours faithfully

    Katya Anderson

  • We are delighted to share some outstanding news from our 2025 Year 12 cohort.

Both Livvy Leech and Sophie Johnson have been invited to audition for the highly regarded WA Performing Arts Showcase. This is a remarkable achievement that recognises excellence in performance across the state.

Adding to this success, Livvy and Sophie were among only 18 students in Western Australia to achieve an A grade in their course. Being two of just eighteen students statewide is an exceptional accomplishment and reflects their talent, dedication and hard work.

We could not be more proud of them.

  • We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Livia Peng in figure skating last year.

Throughout the year, Livia competed at both state and international levels with exceptional results. In June, she represented Western Australia at the Interstate Competition in Sydney and won first place in her division. Her success continued in August when she was the only Australian skater at her level selected to compete in the Asian Open in the Philippines, where she placed eighth against strong international competition.

In September, Livia represented Australia at the Swan International Competition, where she finished in first place, followed by another first place at the Swan Interstate event.

In October, she competed in the Western Australia State Championship and again earned first place, which qualified her for Nationals. At the National Championships, she represented Western Australia and placed fifth overall, an impressive result on the national stage.

To conclude an exceptional year, Livia was selected for the National Squad Team, finishing with an overall national ranking of first place.

Congratulations to Livia. Her dedication, discipline and passion for her sport continue to inspire our community.

Prof. Arcieri

Hello everyone!
I’m Prof. Arcieri, originally from Italy, from Basilicata Region,  which I like to describe, in a playful way, as sitting around the ankle of the Italian boot. I grew up in a close-knit family where language, food and culture were a big part of everyday life.

Something a little unique about me is that I love cooking, especially traditional Italian dishes, as it’s another way of sharing culture and bringing people together.

What I love most about teaching Italian is seeing students gain confidence as they realise they can communicate in another language. Watching that growth is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

One thing I wish more people knew is that studying a language is not just about speaking another language, which is already wonderful,  but also about strengthening memory, developing problem-solving skills, building cultural understanding and helping students become more open-minded global citizens.

Ciao a tutti!

A Message From Prof. Nikolic

Prof. Nikolic

Hello,

I’m from Italy, region Basilicata, from a small town called Pisticci (Matera). I was born in Mostar Bosnia & Herzegovina and moved with my parents to Italy as a child. I speak fluent Italian and Serbo-Croatian.

I’m happily married to Aleks Nikolic, and we have been blessed with two beautiful sons Thomas and Philip.

I have learnt Serbo-Croatian at the age of seventeen, not because I wanted to, but because I had to. Only now I realise how that experience helped me in learning English as an adult.

Experiencing the challenges of learning new languages first-hand, particularly as a teenager, has made me very aware of the difficulties students can face, especially when the student doesn’t see the relevance of learning a new language. It allows me to relate closely to their learning journey and promote resilience and fortitude.

What I love most about teaching Italian is seeing students gain confidence and begin to express themselves in a different language. Even small moments of success can make a big difference, and those moments are what motivate me as a teacher.

I strongly believe in the value of learning another language. It helps students become more open-minded, resilient, culturally aware, inclusive, and compassionate. Not to mention the better understanding of English, as well as the skills that are valuable far beyond the classroom.

Ciao a tutti,

Corpus students shine at ACYF and National Capital Experience Alexandra CarcioneThu, 11 Dec 2025 05:14:45 +0000/news-blog/2025/acyf-and-national-capital-experience57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:693a46451da9ea648dfc1620糖心Vlog Students Shine at ACYF and National Capital Experience

Over the recent trip to Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney, a group of 43 Year 9 students represented 糖心Vlog with enthusiasm, faith, and a spirit of adventure!

Melbourne – Australian Catholic Youth Festival

The journey began in Melbourne, where we joined over 6,000 young Catholics at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF). Across three inspiring days, students participated in vibrant liturgies, including Mass and a pilgrimage with the World Youth Day Cross and Icon, and attended meaningful sessions that deepened their understanding of faith. At one of the plenaries students heard Fr Rob Galea, whose message resonated deeply with our young people filling them with hope and helping them to recognise that in the messiness of life, God is there with them.

A highlight from the festival was hearing from Pope Leo XIV who addressed the audience gathered there. He reminded young people that

“each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary. Our lives, therefore, find their ultimate purpose in becoming who God made us to be, in other words, by living out his will in our lives”.

Students also embraced the cultural richness of Melbourne, visiting the MCG, enjoying the Southbank light show, shopping, and completing an Amazing Race through the CBD, culminating at the State Library of Victoria. They explored museums, hopped on and off trams, and immersed themselves in the city’s dynamic atmosphere.

Canberra – Learning in the Nation’s Capital

Our time in Canberra was an incredible opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Australia’s democratic foundations and rich history. The city itself, designed to reflect the ideals of democracy, became a living classroom for our group.

Australian War Memorial

A deeply moving experience was participating in the Last Post Ceremony, where Shane and Sophia laid a wreath on behalf of our College community. Students learned about the sacrifices made by Australians in times of conflict and reflected on themes of service, peace, and remembrance.

Old and New Parliament House

At the Electoral Education Centre and the Museum of Australian Democracy, both at Old Parliament House, students explored the evolution of Australia’s democratic system and the historical debates that shaped our nation. At New Parliament House, they walked through the chambers where laws are made today, gaining insight into the roles of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and how citizens’ voices are represented in government.

Royal Australian Mint

Here, students discovered how currency is produced and its role in the economy. They learned about the history of Australian coins and the technology behind minting, linking economics to everyday life.

High Court of Australia

Students visited the highest court in the land, learning about its role in interpreting the Constitution and ensuring justice. They explored how the judiciary safeguards rights and maintains the balance of power in our democracy. Students had the opportunity to reflect more deeply on one Australia’s most influential cases, the Eddie Mabo case, and reflect on how we as a community can commit to Reconciliation.

Australian Institute of Sport (AIS)

At AIS, students saw firsthand how elite athletes train and learned about the science behind sports performance, teamwork, and resilience, values that resonate beyond the sporting arena. The group learned about why the AIS was first created and the direct impact it has had on our performance at various Olympic Games.

Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre

This interactive experience sparked curiosity and creativity as students engaged with hands-on exhibits exploring physics, robotics, and innovation. It was a reminder of the importance of science and technology in shaping the future.

Throughout these visits, students connected classroom learning to real-world contexts, developing a deeper appreciation for Australia’s democratic principles, cultural heritage, and scientific achievements.

Sydney – A Perfect Finale

Our final stop was Sydney, where students explored Circular Quay, admired the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, enjoyed a ferry ride to Taronga Zoo, and spent the afternoon discovering the beauty of the harbou city before flying home.

Faith and Formation

Reflecting on the experience, we are reminded of Pope Francis’ words shared by Pope Leo during ACYF:

“Young people, you are the now of God. Do not be afraid to dream big and live your faith boldly.”

This trip was a testament to that call, our students lived their faith with joy and courage.

Thank You

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff who generously gave their time, the parents for their support, and most importantly, our students, whose energy and openness made this journey unforgettable. These students are to be commended on their behaviour and attitude toward the whole experience. They are examples of our values being lived out for the world to see and we are incredibly proud of them.

Finally, we acknowledge the support of the Australian Government:

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $510 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

E-News 2 December Corpus CommunicationsTue, 02 Dec 2025 04:38:16 +0000/news-blog/2025/e-news-2-december57f874e8440243944ef66aa7:57f8a565d482e9a19e4c2458:6923b018c1e41e7c5d5b1fea

Term 4

Welcome to Week 8

  • At Corpus Christi we believe that every individual in our community has the ability to make a meaningful contribution and help shape the unique story of our College. By fostering a sense of personal agency, we encourage all to speak up, share ideas, and engage in ways that are constructive and life-giving.

The Gospels present Jesus as the ultimate model of leadership - one who is prayerful, humble, merciful, relational, compassionate and courageous. Jesus led by serving. He placed others first, recognised their gifts, and nurtured their growth with attentiveness and care. Inspired by Jesus’ example, we strive as a community to lead through service, empowering and supporting those around us.

At Corpus we aim to form leaders who place the needs of others ahead of their own. Our students, whether holding formal roles or leading by example, strive to develop their own gifts while empowering others. In doing so, they seek to create positive change that is ethical, inclusive, and socially just, both within our College and in the broader community.

We look to Pope Francis for inspiration in building this leadership culture. His leadership was grounded in humility, service and authenticity. Author Chris Downey said that Pope Francis’ leadership was “other-centred” and that he led with self-awareness, understanding his own strengths and limitations, and consistently placed the needs of others before his own. He fostered inclusion and empowered others.

We had the opportunity to explore Pope Francis’ leadership, along with other key leaders, during our recent Prefect Camp in defining what it means to be a servant leader like Jesus. Our Prefects were all present yesterday as we announced our incoming leaders in Years 8 to 11 for next year. Congratulations to our new Senior School leadership group, we wish them all of the best for 2026. We look forward to announcing the Junior School leadership positions next week.

We acknowledge and celebrate every student who stepped forward to apply for a leadership role. While not all were appointed to formal positions, we firmly believe that leadership is not defined by a title. Each of these students has demonstrated courage, initiative, and a willingness to serve - qualities that make them leaders in their own right. Their contributions will continue to shape the life of our College, and we encourage them to keep using their gifts to inspire and support others.

  • We celebrate the outstanding leadership and service of Head of Sport, Mr James Howard, who was recently announced as the recipient of the St Sebastian Fellowship Award at the Annual Associated and Catholic College’s (ACC) Awards breakfast.

This prestigious award honours individuals whose long-standing and exceptional service to the ACC reflects the true spirit of St Sebastian; strength, endurance, perseverance, courage, and justice.

For more than two decades, Mr Howard has shaped sport, community, and culture with dedication and a genuine sense of service. He has contributed strongly to the ACC and to our Corpus community to support the growth of sporting opportunities for students. Mr Howard has championed participation and pride in oneself and the College, ensuring that sport is not just about winning, but about belonging, teamwork and the celebration of gifts and talents,

Congratulations to Mr Howard on this outstanding and very well-deserved achievement.

  • We were delighted to welcome many students, families, staff and friends to our annual 糖心Vlog Carols on the Junior School oval on Tuesday last week. The event was a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas and celebrate another fulfilling school year, bringing together our community in a spirit of joy, connection, and belonging.

The evening was filled with festive music thanks to our talented singers and musicians who made the event such a memorable one. Adding to the excitement, we were delighted to welcome a very special guest, Santa himself, who brought smiles and laughter to all of those present.

We are very grateful to our students for their enthusiasm in preparing for the event, along with our staff for their dedicated efforts. Of course, we thank our families for their excellent support of the evening.

  • We were delighted to welcome the Graduating Class of 2031 to the College for their Orientation Day on Tuesday last week. These students will be joining us next year as Year 7 students in 2026 and we know that they will continue to positively contribute to our Corpus legacy.

We congratulate the students for the ways that they participated fully in the planned events and activities across the day. We challenged students right at the start of the day to live out our Values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion throughout the day to ensure that everyone felt a genuine sense of belonging and connection. We acknowledge the students for stepping out of their comfort zone to discover new friendships and to experience many of the different growth opportunities the school has to offer.  We thank our senior student leaders for their support of the day and also our staff who, as always, give of their time and talents so generously.

On Wednesday evening last week, we then welcomed parents and caregivers of our incoming Year 7 students to hear from renowned author and presenter, Claire Eaton, who provided advice and information on the transition journey of students from primary to high school.

  • We farewelled a very excited group of students last Saturday, departing Perth for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival and Canberra Tour. Staff and students have been busy preparing over the past months for this very special event. We wish them all well and hope that they enjoy this wonderful experience. Thank you to our dedicated staff for their support of this excellent initiative.

  • Thank you to the members of the community who recently attended the College’s Annual Community Meeting. The meeting provided us with the opportunity to reflect on another very successful year at the College and to acknowledge the wonderful contribution from so many different groups who ensure the continued growth of our special community.  We thank our Catholic School Advisory Council Chair, Mrs Stephenie Vahala, who chaired the evening.

  • With the Season of Advent upon us, we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus at Christmas. During the special time in the life of the Church, we are invited to deepen our spiritual lives through prayer, reflection, and acts of charity.

In preparation for the arrival of Christ, Pope Leo XIV encourages us to live faithfully, promote reconciliation, and work toward unity in our communities and beyond. His message is a call to ‘active hope’ – not one of passive waiting, but an active time of preparation.

As the term rapidly draws to a close during the Season of Advent, we wish all of our families every blessing for a joy-filled Christmas. We acknowledge the wonderful engagement of parents and caregivers, the courage of our students to learn and grow, the support of the St Thomas More Parish and the outstanding dedication of our amazing staff working in partnership to shape our wonderful 糖心Vlog community.

Best wishes and every blessing

    • Existing accounts for under-16s will be locked once the ban begins.

What Apps Can Children Under 16 Still Use?

    • Messaging apps (Messenger, Messenger Kids, Discord, Signal, Telegram)

    • Online gaming platforms (Roblox, Minecraft, Steam, Fortnite)

    • Health and education apps

    • Viewing YouTube without logging in (guest mode)

There are no penalties or fines for children, parents, or schools if children access banned platforms.

Preparing Your Child for the Change

This shift may feel significant for young people who rely on social media for connection, entertainment, and communication. The most supportive things parents can do include:

    1. Acknowledge Their Feelings

The ban may feel unfair or upsetting. Avoid dismissive phrases such as “It’s for your own good.” Keep conversations open and understanding.

    2. Model Healthy Behaviour

Many adults also find themselves glued to their phones. Demonstrating balanced tech use helps children adjust more easily.

    3. Help Them Build Offline Connections

Young people won’t automatically replace social media time with healthier activities. Encourage:

    • Face-to-face social time

    • Sports, hobbies, and creative outlets

    • Family activities

    • Regular tech-free times

    4. Practical Steps Before 10 December

    Help your child to:

    • Save Snapchat memories to their camera roll

    • Collect their friends’ phone numbers

    • Download posts or photos they want to keep

    • Cancel any subscriptions linked to social media

    • Stay alert for scams offering “workarounds” or “reactivation”

    Ideas for Offline Activities

To support the transition away from social media, here are some enjoyable screen-free options:

    • Cooking, baking, gardening

    • Drawing, painting, crafting

    • Sports, walking, the gym, swimming

    • Reading, audiobooks, podcasts

    • Going to the markets, beach, skate park, Kings Park

    • Board games, card games, escape rooms, mini golf

    • Photography, journaling, making a vision board

    • Spending time with friends and family

(You may like to sit with your child and make your own list of personalised ideas.)

    Conversation Starters About Technology

Use simple, curious questions to help your child reflect on their phone use:

    • What will you miss most about social media?

    • What won’t you miss?

    • How does social media affect your mood?

    • How do you recharge without your phone?

    • What hobbies or friendships do you want to grow offline?

    • How will you stay connected with friends?

  • As we prepare for an exciting year of learning in 2026, we are pleased to share that our school will be introducing the Explicit Mathematics Program in Pre-Primary to Year 2. This comprehensive, research-informed program provides a high-quality and rigorous approach to early mathematics, building strong foundations in number, measurement, statistics and probability, and problem-solving. Concepts are taught sequentially and revisited regularly to strengthen understanding, and hands-on materials such as Bonds Blocks will continue to support students’ learning. This program will be embedded alongside our play-based learning approach, helping to develop confidence and a deep understanding that will prepare students for Powerful Problem Solving opportunities and the Oxford Owls resource in later years.

Sofia proudly received the Glitterati Outstanding Effort Award, one of only three trophies awarded across the entire dance school on the evening. Her teacher shared these wonderful words: “This student is always kind and helpful to others... she always comes to class with a positive, enthusiastic attitude ready to learn.”

Congratulations, Sofia! Your effort and enthusiasm is impressive!

Term 4

Welcome to Week 6

Student Engagement

This term has been an exceptionally busy time for the College as we move swiftly toward the close of another school year. Our students have shown outstanding commitment to a wide range of activities and events, embracing every opportunity to succeed while learning and growing along the way.

Our Senior School students have been involved in their exams of late, using these assessments to illustrate their learning and understanding. They have approached their exams with maturity, rigour and determination, working with staff to fine tune their learning. Students across the other year levels have also been involved in a multitude of learning experiences, with courses now moving toward their conclusion. As outlined in my opening newsletter article this term, we want our students to accelerate toward the end of the year, fully investing in their learning along the way to support their ongoing growth.

Learning of course happens anywhere anytime, so it was wonderful to showcase and celebrate outstanding student achievement across our K-12 school in the Performing Arts last week. On Tuesday we welcomed many hundreds of parents, caregivers and families into the College gym to see our K-6 students perform at the ‘Explore K-6 Performing Arts Showcase’. The event was a joy filled celebration with our students showcasing their skills and leanings from their Performing Arts program. Well done to our students on their excellent performances and thank you to our dedicated staff for their support of the students.

From a Senior School perspective, we were delighted to present our Music Recital Evening to families last week. The evening, held in the Caroline Payne Theatre, provided our Music students with the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, sharing their gifts and talents. Congratulations to our students on their outstanding performances. We acknowledge their skill, curiosity and creativity and thank them for a joyous and inspirational evening. We acknowledge to Head of Music, Mr Charles Pinkham, and our Music Tutors for their terrific support of the students.

Meanwhile, out on the sporting field, we celebrated the efforts of our Junior School athletes who recently won the CAPSS Athletics Carnival. This victory means that the College has secured wins in every CAPSS Carnival this year. This is an extraordinary effort and speaks to the determination and commitment of our students and the pride with which they represent our College. It is an achievement that celebrates the depth, culture, and spirit of sport at Corpus Christi. Special thanks to Mr David Trickett and the Junior School staff for their considerable efforts.

Our Senior student leaders have also been busy of late with our 2026 Prefect Team heading off to Dwellingup for their Prefect Camp. This event allowed out students to gather as a team to develop their whole school strategy for next year. We look forward to them sharing their initiatives with the school community into the new year.

Parent and Caregiver Engagement

We have also greatly appreciated the excellent engagement of our parents and caregivers in the life of the school this year, including most recently with our Friends of Corpus strategic input workshop last week. Parents were provided with the opportunity to feed into the conversation of ‘what went well this year?’, and ‘where to for next year?’. This process forms a part of our Catholic School Improvement Strategy giving parents an important voice in the direction of the school.

I often highlight the extensive body of research showing that parent engagement is among the most significant factors influencing a child’s educational success. According to the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), decades of research confirms that when parents actively participate in their child’s learning, both at home and through school partnerships, students demonstrate higher academic performance, stronger motivation, and improved social and emotional development.

Engagement, of course, goes beyond attending school events; it includes creating a supportive and enriching home environment, encouraging high aspirations, and maintaining open communication with teachers. These actions foster motivation, confidence, and resilience in learners, which are critical for long-term success.

To this end, over the course of the year, we have focused on parent engagement opportunities for parents curated through our four Pillars to support the holistic development of our students. Guest speakers and workshops have supported the development of a common language and shared ideas on how to support our students. We are very grateful to our parents and caregivers for their support of these events and for their invaluable input.

We look forward to continuing to develop authentic parent engagement programs and initiatives into next year in support of the holistic growth and development of our students.

Capital Development

We were thrilled to officially take possession of the newly refurbished James Nestor building last week. This milestone marks an exciting step forward in our ongoing commitment to providing modern, innovative learning spaces for our students. The refurbishment has transformed the building into a vibrant and functional environment that will support a wide range of educational activities and enhance the overall experience for our community.

With this project now complete, we are preparing to commence works at our Junior School. These upgrades will play a significant role in improving facilities across our amalgamated campus, ensuring that every student benefits from contemporary spaces designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and growth. This investment reflects our vision for a future-focused learning environment that meets the needs of today and tomorrow.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Principal

James Nestor Building Refurbishment Complete

We are excited to share that the refurbishment of the James Nestor building for our Year 5 and 6 students is now complete. This vibrant, refreshed learning space features four contemporary classrooms designed to inspire creativity and collaboration. At the heart of the area is a large breakout space, connecting all classrooms and providing flexibility for group activities and innovative learning experiences. A dedicated bag-storage zone has been thoughtfully integrated to support students’ daily routines.

This location will serve as a temporary home for our Year 5 and 6 students while we complete major refurbishment works in the Junior School classroom atriums during 2026 and 2027.

On Friday afternoon, we welcomed our Junior School staff to preview the space, and today, the whole College staff had the opportunity to learn more about the refurbishment. This is an important step in shaping what the future of learning spaces will look like across our K–12 College. These enhancements align with the College’s broader vision of holistic, contemporary learning environments to ensure that “learning happens anywhere, anytime” on our campus.

We are thrilled to share some fantastic news! Emily Wahyudi has achieved 1st place in the South Suburban Competition for the Woodwind Under 13 category, showcasing her incredible talent on the flute.

Congratulations, Emily, on this outstanding accomplishment! Your dedication and musical excellence are truly inspiring.

Kaden’s Championship Victory

After two weeks of intense trials, Kaden earned his spot on the Willetton Tigers Division 1 team. Just two weeks later, his team competed in the WABL Division 1 State Championship Tournament, playing seven games across the weekend, including the semi-finals and finals on Sunday.

The journey was full of highs and lows, but the boys never gave up. In the semi-final, the score was tied with just two minutes remaining when Kaden sank a clutch three-pointer to put his team ahead. That decisive shot secured their place in the grand final.

Fueled by confidence, the Tigers dominated the final and claimed gold in the State Championship—an incredible achievement! This victory means the team has automatically qualified for the WABL Nationals in September 2026, exactly the outcome they were hoping for.

Congratulations, Kaden, on your outstanding performance and leadership under pressure!

Term 4

Welcome to Week 4

Graduating Class of 2025

It was a very special day for the College on Wednesday of Week 2 where we gathered to celebrate the journey of our Graduating Class of 2025.

Our Year 12s have been outstanding role models for our students across the K-12 College. They have lived out our Values by committing fully to all aspects of school life, they have led and learned with courage and have been compassionately present for others through their kindness, support, and service.

Our Year 12 students leave a legacy of unity, pride and joy. They have epitomised what it means to be a Corpus student and contributed to our culture in a very positive way. They have walked together with hope, they have joyfully lifted others up and led our College community with enthusiasm, energy, vision and a genuine sense of service.

It was with immense pride that we recognised their contribution at the Graduation Assembly during the day, alongside their families and friends. We then gathered at St Mary’s Cathedral in the evening to celebrate Mass together and formally present their Graduation Certificates.

The journey of course continues for our graduands – as one chapter closes, another begins. In exploring a world full of opportunity, we reminded our departing students that they are imbued with the Corpus spirit and surrounded by loving families and friends to walk alongside them on the next part of their pilgrimage of growth, discovery and transformation.

We acknowledge the exceptional leadership of our Graduating Class of 2025 in igniting the spirit within our community. Their legacy will be long lasting within our College and act as an inspiration for all other students.

 The Gift of Reconciliation

On Saturday 25 October, our Year 3 students took a significant step in their faith journey by celebrating their First Reconciliation. This sacred occasion marked a moment of grace and reflection, as each child experienced the healing power of God's forgiveness. The students approached the Sacrament with reverence and maturity, supported by their families, teachers, and parish community. Their preparation this year has been both spiritual and personal, laying a strong foundation for their First Holy Communion next year.

The journey to Reconciliation has involved learning about the importance of saying sorry, understanding the impact of our actions, and recognising the unconditional love of God. Through prayer, classroom discussions, and reflection, the students have come to appreciate that forgiveness is not only a gift we receive but also one we are called to offer others. Their readiness to participate in this Sacrament is a testament to the nurturing environment provided by our staff and parish, where faith and compassion are central to our shared values.

A Celebration of Sport

The College was thrilled to hold its annual Burgundy, White and Blue Celebration of Sport Awards Evening on Thursday last week in celebration of the commitment effort and achievement of our students this year.

The College has a rich and proud culture of sport. We proudly champion sporting opportunities because they deliver a wealth of benefits that extend far beyond the playing field. Participation improves overall fitness, enhances flexibility, and develops coordination, balance, and movement skills. It also plays a preventative role in reducing long-term health risks, promotes relaxation, supports healthy sleep patterns, and encourages lifelong habits of physical activity.

Just as significant are the wellbeing benefits sport provides. It builds resilience, perseverance, and self-regulation, while fostering teamwork and a sense of belonging. Through organised sporting experiences, students strengthen social and emotional skills, grow confidence and self-esteem, and develop interpersonal abilities. Sport also cultivates a growth mindset and self-motivation, as students set personal and team goals that drive continuous improvement.

Beyond physical and emotional wellbeing, sport adds value to learning by challenging critical thinking, decision-making, and moral reasoning. It develops leadership, communication, and collaboration skills – attributes that are transferable across many areas of life and future careers. At the College, we believe sport is not just about competition; it is about shaping well-rounded individuals who thrive physically, mentally, and socially.

The benefits of involvement in sport are many. We therefore encourage all of our students to fully invest themselves in the sporting life of the College.

Congratulations to all of the students recognised during the Burgundy, White and Blue Celebration evening for their contribution to sport this year. We celebrate their achievements and efforts in giving of their best to represent the College and themselves in the sporting arena.

We also acknowledge our very dedicated staff for their support of our students in providing them with this important growth pathway. Led by Head of Sport, Mr James Howard, and Head of Health & Physical Education, Mr Daniel Curtis, this team of staff has generously given of their time and expertise to create a broad array of outstanding sporting opportunities for students.

College Open Day

We were thrilled to welcome prospective families to our College Open Day held across the K-12 campus last Saturday morning. We were excited to have the opportunity to share our story and to celebrate the extraordinary array of holistic learning pathways available at the College.

Attendees gathered initially to hear of our Vision, Mission and Values and then broke into groups to attend tours led by our students and to meet with College staff. The day was filled with festivities, activities and events, showcasing our wonderful school community.

We thank everyone involved in the very successful day, in particular our students who gave up their time so generously on a Saturday to lead the tours. These outstanding students are excellent ambassadors for our College and promote what it means to live out our Vison of being Outstanding for Others.

We have a very rich and illustrious heritage at our school, built through the contribution of many wonderful staff, students and parents across the decades. We look forward to welcoming new families into our community to continue to grow our story into the future.

Best wishes and every blessing

Social Media Laws

From December 10 of 2025, children under 16 years of age in Australia, will not be

able to keep their current account or make a new account on many Social Media

networks. The Social Media Minimum Age Law has been introduced to help protect

young people from aspects of the platforms that try to keep them scrolling for too

long, and from content that can affect their safety, health and wellbeing.

Our trusted online safety expert, Paul Litherland, has put together the guide below to support parents in navigating these new laws.

Student Success Story: Ava Bronson-Wang – Interschool Spelling Bee Achievement

Last week, our Year 4 to 6 Interschool Spelling Bee team proudly represented 糖心Vlog at Orana Catholic Primary School, bringing enthusiasm, confidence, and a strong commitment to excellence. Each student gave their very best, demonstrating thorough preparation and poise throughout the competition.

A special congratulations to Ava Bronson-Wang, who achieved an outstanding second place in the Year 4 division. Her performance was a testament to her dedication and love of learning.

We commend all our participants for their hard work and for showcasing the College’s values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion. Well done!

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Camp – Cape to Cape Journey

Year 10 student Chelsea McKay successfully completed her Duke of Edinburgh Silver Qualifying Camp over the October holidays.

Chelsea trekked an impressive 81 kilometres along the Cape to Cape Track with the company Simply Trekking and 8 other students from other schools.  The group started at Cowaramup Beach in Gracetown and finishing at the iconic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.

This five-day journey was no easy feat. It included two challenging 7 km beach walks, steep escarpment climbs, and stunning stretches through majestic Karri forest.

In preparation, Chelsea demonstrated excellent organisation and resilience — planning her meals, learning to dehydrate food to reduce pack weight, and carrying all her own gear, including her tent, sleeping bag, and clothing.

Well done, Chelsea! What an outstanding achievement and a true demonstration of independence, determination, and adventure.

Student Success Spotlight: Aiden and Lachie Geaney

We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of Aiden and Lachie Geaney at the State BMX Championships and the Mountain Biking Enduro National Championship, held during the recent holidays.

Both students demonstrated outstanding commitment and resilience throughout the year, competing in seven race days across Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Collie, and Perth. Their efforts paid off with Lachie finishing 3rd and Aiden 6th in the State Series.

At the State Championships, Aiden secured 8th place in the 20-inch category and an amazing 3rd place in the Cruiser class. Lachie placed 9th in the 20-inch category and 10th in the Cruiser class.

The boys also took on a new challenge at the National Mountain Biking Enduro Championship in Collie, marking their first national-level competition in mountain biking. Aiden completed five runs over four and a half hours, tackling steep climbs and a 15km return ride for a single run! Lachie powered through four challenging runs, embracing the thrill of muddy trails and pouring rain.

Looking ahead, Aiden and Lachie have an exciting year of BMX racing, with plans to compete at the Oceania Championships in Brisbane (February) and the Nationals in Shepparton (April)—a qualifying event for the World Championships in Brisbane (July).

Congratulations, Aiden and Lachie! Your determination and passion for sport are truly inspiring.
